DAl'GHTERS OF THE PIOSEEBS HOLD MEETING The following program was given at thtf Daughters of the Pioneers meeting meet-ing Thursday, June 4, at the cit hall: A biographical sketch of Mrs. Margaret Thornton Wright was given by Mrs. David Conder; violin solo, Margaret and La von Earl," reading by Clarke Conder: song by Bernice Bush; reading May Conder and the lesson on Western history wag given by Mrs. Bertha Saget. Following is the sketch of Mrs. Wright: Margaret Thornton Wright, daughter daugh-ter of William and Mary Kennedy Thornton, was born Jan. 4, 1844 in Ayrshire, Schotland. She was the seventh child of a family of nine. Her father was a weaver by trade, owned the property he lived on. He had a six loom weaver shop and with the help of his two oldest song made a good living for the family. He embraced the Gospel in his native na-tive land and in the year 1850 with his family consisting of his wife, Mary, six sons and one 'daughter, Margaret, (the other two daughters having passed away in Schotland) left thtir native land and came to Zton. Arriving in Utah in 1853 they remained in Salt Lake City for one .Hnter and .in the following spring took up their abode in Cottonwood. From there" they moved to Mill creea i. h. e.n in l&S ther came to IU t, U? -e aa American Fork. Margaret was then eleven years old. She at the age of sixteen, on the 31st of OctoWer 18- ( ... married to Frederick Wright To this union thirteten children were born, Frederick W., Mary Ellen. Samuel. Sam-uel. Elirabeth, Margaret Ann, Sarah Jane. James Arthur, Hugh Alexander, Charles Gilbert. Lucy, AddleV Bertha and Joseph. January 18th. 1908, when Margaret was 64 year, old she was left a widow with 11 children, two children. Samuel Sam-uel and Sarah, having prtteeeded the father to the great beyond. Eight children were then married leaving (wo girls and one boy Addle1, Bertha and Joseph at home. She wa. of a qutet humble disposi tion. She loved her nusDana ana family and labored as only pioneer, understand for their comfort She was handy wttn her needle which helped her greatly in the clothing of her family. She was ap expert in soap maktog. making candles etc. which was a great assistance in those days. She had .plendld control over her children.
