Show Pkasaet Grove Be gATUBDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1924 SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1924 N3ZLLI0 XHOi- NV0IH3K Cost For 0s of School Building Explained Because of some unwarranted state ments Ui"t have been maae regaraing .nmi rharees or ui rusajHuu. Grove High School gymnasium, It has btea requested that "the rules and 1EUi reflations pertaining tnerew ue explained. ex-plained. In accordance with the decision junded down by Judge Hansen In the ease of Smuin and Bradsnaw, vs. Alpine School District, the Board of Education of the Alpine School District Dis-trict was compelled to make regulations regu-lations restricting the use of school buildings to certain purposes and to certain conditions. In the summary of the decision above referred to, the Judge makes two definite restrictions. First: School buildings cannot do lei to private parties or institutions1, and second: they can be let to public Institutions In-stitutions only when the same shall . 1 A BOt incur any expense w or luitsr- fere with the work ol tha school, Notwithstanding that the members of the school board would have desired a more general and open policy,, they .ro. compelled to abide by the deci sion rendered. The rules and regulations adopted by the board governing the use of school gymnasiums are the same throughout the district. They provide. (1st) for a charge of J8.00, to be paid to the Alpine School District; (2nd) for a floor manager and hall manager (to be paid not In excess of $3.00 earh); and (3rd) a fee not to exceed $2.00 to pay for janitoral work. The $8.00 charge .paid . to. the school district dis-trict as an amount decided upon by the board, after consultation with the Janitors, sufficient only to cover the averajro cost of heating, lighting, depreciation, de-preciation, interest, taxes, etc., and other items incidental to the operation of the hall. The Janitor of Pleasant Grove High School gives' as his opinion opin-ion that the above amount Is not more than necessary for that purpose, and that during the winter months It will cost that for heating and light- ins alone. The floor manager is responsible for the conduct of the people In the danre hall. He must Insist on proper form and character of dance and should trouble arise on this ground, is responsible for removing such parties part-ies from the floor. . The hall manager Is responsible for the kind of people who enter the halL Any disorderly conduct, drunkness. etc., come directly under his supervision. super-vision. He must swear to the com plaint and appear In court where ar rests are made.. He must also attend to the financial business of the function func-tion where he operates. The services rendered by the jnnor t- etrexanatoTy-elalBB, Seating, lighting, ventilating, etc. Prom this explanation It can be seen that no profit accrues from rental of hall and that such charges as are made are in accordance with the de cision of the court; hence are obliga tory and not optional. The schools, themselves, must abide these regulations regu-lations and must pay the same as any other organization when using the haTT uhe impression that some people D:ve that the high school gets the 'Sft0 is erroneous). ' ' jf wo assume that the board were Privileged to let the hall free of -""w we cannot escape the fact that thpy Olio i. l..- . . a the 'xt of operating, heating, light- itlf. taxes, Interest, etc., and since the Jnonoy they would use to meet this ponso must come from the taxes Pai.i by the people, it is evident that tax"s would have to be increased to tate caro of that extra demand. , 'sn't it better that the organization ,h;'t gets the benefit of the use,' and These Cold Mornings Make The Old Car Hard To Start - Lighter Transmission Grease and a Hot Shot " Battery Will Eliminate This Trouble. Hayes Auto Co. High me pronts derived herefrom, pay its prorata cost, rather than to have the taxpayers at large, (who may receive no direct benefit from ita use) should er the entire cost of operating and maintaining the hall? A committee of four the District Supt., the Local Hoard Member, and the Principal of the district and high schools are directly responsible to the school board for the enforcement of these rules and regulations. Any per son desiring information regarding these items can get such from the local committee, and It Is suggested that It is only fair to the members of this committee that a fair consider atlon of the proposition be made before be-fore Judgment Is rendered. Respectfully submitted, The Hall Commltte of Pleasant Grove. MITTEEAPPOINTED The local Near East Relief com mittee with S. L.
