He attended the public schools In the southern pnrt of the stntc, and later entered and aiib graduated from tho normal school of the State Unlverclty. After getting his degree ho taught In the public Bchools for live years. wThcu he became associated with the late lamented A. C. Nelson uud thereafter there-after was the great educator's close irleud and helpmate until an untimely un-timely death claimed the superintendent. superinten-dent. For ten years he walked by the side of Utah's famous teacher and ably assisted his chief lu tho formation forma-tion of the splendid public school system sys-tem in this stntc. And so It wns not strange that the governor lu his wisdom wis-dom should appoint Assistant M'tthe-sou M'tthe-sou to fill the unoxplrcd term of the dead superintendent. Mr. Mathlson in his new capacity tins fully met ul) expectations. He has carried tho heavy work along smoothly and without n hitch. His administration of tho schools Is entirely en-tirely satisfactory. Tho nomination came, to him uuuollclted and without opposition In his party. However, he has no time for politics and Is attending at-tending strictly to thu duties of his department.
