Show o Home Struck By Lighting During the electric storm which visited American Fork on Sunday af-tornoon af-tornoon last, Mr. and Mrs. Clayson and family had a very peculiar experience. The family had Just returned from Sunday afternoon meeting, and tho parents, with four of the children, were sitting in tho room where the telephone Is located, and the eldest girl was in an adjoining room studying. study-ing. Mr. Clnyson was reading to the other members nnd little attention was being paid to the storm, when suddenly a terrific explosion occurred in tho room whero tho six members of tho family wero located and a cloud of smoko flllo1 the room. Excitement ran high for a minute or two, when a careful survey revealed re-vealed tho following: The lightning evidently hnd centered In tho mirror which hung near where tho phone wire enters tho room. In the explosion explo-sion the mirror was shattered Into fragments, part of it being ground up like sand. From hero the bolt seems to hnvo been divided, for one branch passed through the celling, leaving a hole about like n largo bullet hole. Another streak crossed tho room near where Mr. and Mrs. Clayson sat and pierced theb rick wall near the south door, going entirely through the wall and leaving a hole only about liko that of a good-sized buckshot. Across tho room on tho west side a picture glass wns broken nnd another buckshot buck-shot hole mado In tho wall. In the upstnfs hallway the electric meter was entirely dentroyed and the light cord burned off In one of ,llin rooms. From hero It seems to have reached 'the metal shingles on one of the hips of tho roof, for one strip of these were entirely, torn 'oft. Mr. and Mrs. Clayson are rejoicing over tho fact that no more damage was done, as tho only personal shock felt was received by tho second daughter, daugh-ter, Lucy, who still feela the effects of It. That tho lightning could fly through tho building as It did with six persons per-sons In the room where the nxploslnii took place without greater Injury seems little short of marvelous to all who Inspect what was dono In tho room. 1 |
