La cadena Servicio de Difusión Pública, (PBS por sus siglas en inglés) lanzó V-Me como una analogía de “Mírame” en noviembre de 2007. La estación tiene una amplia combinación de programas para niños y adultos que se divide en cuatro categorías principales: Niños Cre- ciendo y Jugando, Estilo de vida / Viviendo y Mejorando, Eventos de Actualidad, Películas y Eventos Especiales y Disfrutando y Celebrando. Los programas de niños incluyen programas educacionales como Hoobs, la versión en español de Plaza Sésamo y Henry’s World. “El objetivo es educar a los niños y apoyar a los padres en la formación de buenos hábitos en sus hijos; así por ejemplo “Lazy Town,” inspira a los niños a jugar, estar en movimiento y comer en forma saludable”, señaló Eve Mary Verde, miembro del equipo de servicios creativos de KUED. Ésta se llevó a cabo en el centro de convenciones Salt Palace de la ciudad de Salt Lake del 9 al 12 de Octubre. SACNAS tiene como objetivo apoyar a los estudiantes de origen chicano/latino y nativo americano para que reciban una educación superior y obtengan títulos avanzados en investigación científica, liderazgo y enseñanza. El tema central de la conferencia de este año fue ‘Año Polar Internacional: Cam- bio Global en Nuestras Comunidades’, enfocada en los cambios que afectan a la población mundial y particularmente al cambio climático. Este tema exploró los cambios concernientes a los ecosistemas y poblaciones que van desde los círculos polares hasta el desierto de Suroeste. Esta iniciativa se estableció como correspondencia a los esfuerzos mundiales del Año Polar Internacional, en el cual se lanzó un programa científico a gran escala enfocado en las áreas árticas y antárticas, y contando con más de 200 proyectos y la participación de miles de científicos de más de 60 naciones. En una de las charlas que se llevaron a cabo durante la conferencia titulada ‘Etapas de la Escuela Superior: Técnicas de Sobrevivencia para su Éxito’, los estudiantes que se encuentran cursando su doctorado o que son profesionistas ya graduados, así como los miembros de SACNAS, compartieron sus experiencias sobre el uso del tiempo, encontrando un balance entre las responsabilidades escolares, familiares y financieras. El doctor Greg Villarreal, miembro del Concejo de Directivos de SACNAS, fue uno de los expositores y compartió valiosa información y consejos ante un grupo de más de 30 asistentes. “Queremos apoyar a los estudiantes minoritarios para que alcancen sus objetivos educacionales y proporcionales con consejos para su transición a la vida profesional.
