AlAm lule Ahora Utah El consulado móvil de El Salvador estuvo en función en la ciudad de Salt Lake el 15 y el 16 de agosto, fechas en que estuvo atendiendo a las personas junto a su equipo de servidores públicos, el cónsul titular de El Salvador Oscar Benavides Gutiérrez, del consulado salvadoreño en Las Vegas. Se dieron cita aproximadamente 150 salvadoreños quienes tramitaron pasaportes, registros de defunción, registros de matrimonio, registros de nacimiento para los hijos de salvadoreños que han nacido en Utah, permisos de menores para que puedan viajar a El Salvador, y permisos para trámite de pasaporte de aquellos menores que viven en El Salvador y cuyos padres viven en Utah. Otro de los servicios proporcionados fue el de Cartas de Vivencia que se dan a personas pensionadas en El Salvador para comprobar que aún están vivas y poder así seguir recibiendo los beneficios. Maribel Cabrera se presentó al consulado móvil solicitando su Carta de Vivencia. “Vine por mi carta para demostrarles en El Salvador que sigo viva y no pierda yo mi pensión. Me trataron bien y el trámite fue rápido”, enfatizó Cabrera. Durante la jornada consular se atendió aproximadamente a 150 personas. “Es bueno que la gente aproveche ya que nosotros venimos cada dos meses. Sabemos como está la situación migratoria tan difícil para todos los indocumentados, y ya que nosotros hacemos el esfuerzo de venir hasta Utah por dos días, pues que también ellos hagan el esfuerzo de venir a sacar sus documentos”, añadió. También mencionó que están planeando regresar a la ciudad de Salt Lake en octubre. En las siguientes semanas confirmarán las fechas. AlAm lule Ahora Utah En el año 2007 el programa de Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores (Big Brothers & Big Sisters) atendió aproximadamente a mil 650 niños, de los cuales el 35 por ciento es de origen latinos (577 en total). Creada en el año de 1904 e instituida en la ciudad de Salt Lake desde hace tres décadas, Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores es una institución sin fines de lucro. Su objetivo es mejorar la vida de niños y niñas vinculándolos con un hermano o hermana mayor que para ellos sea un modelo a seguir y que estos también les sirva como compañía, como una persona en quien puedan confiar y con la que puedan compartir actividades tanto divertidas como educativas. “El propósito es ser un apoyo a las familias y en sí al niño. Es fortalecer al niño en su desarrollo social, en sus habilidades, en que ellos puedan edificar ese potencial que tienen como niños con sus cualidades y ser un apoyo para ellos”, señaló Mercedes Budd, especialista de Relaciones con el Cliente del programa. Hermanos y Hermanas Mayores está diseñado para aquellos niños en cuyas familias falta uno o ambos padres, situación que regularmente es a consecuencia del divorcio, de la muerte o de que el que el padre o los padres se encuentren en la cárcel. Cuando faltan ambos padres regularmente los menores se encuentran bajo la custodia del estado. Lograr que los objetivos del programa se cumplan depende de tres partes: el mentor, el niño y el padre o tutor, ya que este último es responsable de ver que su hijo esté a tiempo y listo para asistir a sus actividades con su mentor. Los beneficios son muchos y son para las tres partes involucradas. Francisco Calderón, originario de Perú y director del evento, comentó que éste se basa en el deseo de compartir la cultura y las tradiciones de Sudamérica con la comunidad local. “Es un nuestro objetivo dar a conocer la grand di- versidad de nuestros países” dijo. La organización del evento contó con el apoyo económico de una entidad privada que desea mantenerse en el anonimato y que contribuye con alrededor del 80 por ciento de los costos, indicó Calderón. “También se cuenta con el apoyo voluntario de diferentes organizaciones comunitarias, clubes o fraternidades de varios países que apoyan a que este evento se haga realidad”, añadió Calderon. Los voluntarios jugaron un papel importante en la preparación del festival pues participaron como artistas, vendedores y organizadores.
