The Senate has passed the bill appropriating one million dollars to be expended on this project for the coming year. This is the greatest and A most important single program for the development of the agricultural resources of the State yet undertaken. Attempt to measure in your mind what it means to this State, in added wealth, ircreased crop production, land values, and happy homes, to have twelve million dollars expended in our midst for the redemption of arid lands. Old Croesus would rise up from his grave to recive such a gift. Are we alive to the possibilities? Are we aware that there are certain problems by way of proper organization and leadership, and a certain amount of preparatory work necessary in order for Salt Lake County v.receiva. the.iininedia.to.. benefits ? While we are spending thousands of dollars in a most excellent and lauditory manner for the advertising of Utah to induce capital to come within our gates, here we have a million dollars knocking- at our very doo srfor investment. - THE SITUATION The Salt Lake Basin irrigation project includes three distinct projects: The Echo Canyon reservoir; the Weber-Prov- o Canal, and Utah Lake. The Echo Canyon reservoir is to for lands in Weber County. At Utah Lake a dike is to be erected and water impounded there for use on Utah County land and some lands in Salt Lake County. The Weber-Prov- o Canal project, brings water from the head of the Weber into the Provo river and contemplates the building of a reservoir in Provo Canyon to be carried by a high line canal to the southeastern part of SaltLakeCounty and intemedi-at- e points to furnish irrigation water for the high lands. This constitutes a large part of the lands in Salt Lake County to benefit from the projects. From the best reliable information available the crux of the situation as it effects Salt Lake County is this: The entire project which will cover a period of several yearB is to be developed in units.
