Show bishop JAMES 5 JENSEN WELL KNOWN figu R E DIES AT SALINA was wa fornier former county Treas itier and 1 a I ot ol comity camilli ers er held heid civic offices in ill III hi homo home town last sunday night there died at salina one of the historic characters of that town and of this county bishop james S jensen he had bad been ill for months ind and medical aid did not seem to reach the ailment bishop jensen has never been a completely well man since he met with an accident ag 16 years ago while unloading liny hay into his barn at that time he fell from the load landin landing b on a pole and sustaining a severe fracture of his ribs while he apparently patently ly recovered front from this he never was the same rugged and healthy man the last year or so he has ha failed rapidly coming to salina a good many years ago when an ecclesiastical leader was badly needed he was made bishop of the tha ward and he serve served d in that capacity until about 1904 when nhen he resigned As a bishop he succeeded in uniting the ward in ili an efficient manner and good work was accomplished in it all branches of the ward he was a good mixer mier and he be stood well with those who were not of his faith and could always accomplish any objective in civic or religious lines he was active in civic and political life ile he served his town as town own board member and was made town president one term and was to town w n treasurer tor for a number of years he served the county as county treasurer in 1901 02 when the office only paid a year and made trips almost daily bet between een salina and richfield later he was nas elected as a county commissioner he was also active in irrigation matters and was a notable figure in all important movements in his town and county holding important positions in ili irrigating com companies ranies and other local enterprises bishop jensen was a man of strong likes and dislikes and when he espoused a cause lie he worked valiantly for it if he was opposed to any matter lie he never minced words in his opposition I 1 he leaves a ni ife four sons two daughters several brothers and sisters and a lost host of grandchildren his sons are J C jensen roy jensen bert jensen and ray jensen of sa linn mrs george F crane and mrs thomas nielsen of salina dishop bishop martin jensen redmond and chris jensen of canada are two of his brothers the latter a very successful business man mail in alberta funeral services will be held on sunday at the salina chapel at one |
