An advance In freight rates, such as has been announced. Is a more serious matter than moat people realise. Not only does It mean higher transportation charges on ore sent to the smelter but a higher price for everything that the mines use: coal, timber, powder, steel, etc. Then It will mean higher smelting charges because tbe smelters must pay higher transportawhich tion rates - on everything they buy and sell. TO THE MINERB OF TINTIC. o Employees of the Eagle ft Blue Bell mine have aent the following communication to the Reporter, asking that it be published: "There Is a rumor of a strike at the Eagle ft Blue Bell but such Is not the case. There was no strike, the trouble being the work of an agitator from Colorado, who came to town a short time ago and managed to get work at thla mine. A few days after he went to work he commenced making trouble which had the endorsement of some of the men on the night shift, finally getting some of our boys to ask for more pay, change room Improvements and no timber-me- n allowed on cage with tools. The paper was signed by a part of the night shift but the men on the day shift were not consulted and a big percentage of the force is on the day shift. These agitators went up to the mine on Friday evening and then walked off the works and threatened to close the property. We want the cltisens of Eureka to know the facts before passing Judgement on this trouble. We feel that these men were entirely In the wrong and that we are doing right when we continue working and that absolutely no attention should be paid to the stickers" placed around town announcing a strike, these notices containing the names of no union or organisation. their efforts the Notwithstanding Eagle will continue to operate and the employees will no doubt get proper treatment If they present a request, not a demand, for an increase In wsges.
