Show prominent eureka lady died late last week mrs sadie arrigona hood wife of P C hood died at the family home in eureka last friday afternoon her death resulting from cancer e her death was not unexpected her condition having been quite serious for some weeks previous the pass ing of mrs hood was a severe shock to the family and her many friends in this part of the state mrs P C hood was born in lehi 32 years ago when she was but a few weeks old her parents moved to eureka wacl was the home of the 06 AL essed during her entire life in 1907 her marriage took place to P C hood and one child latawn lafawn was born to them mrs hood was an ardent worker in the ij D S church being active as an officer of the relief society and primary assoria tion and also a member of the church choir during the influenza epidemic of 1918 1919 mrs hood volunteered her services as a nurse and assisted many afflicted families she worked night and day and cannot be praised too highly tor for the part she took in the tight fight to check the spread of the disease and to relieve the suffering ot of those who were stricken the need tor for nurses was not so great during the second epidemic a year later but mrs hood again offered her services but was prevented from assisting as asting by an attack of the disease and it was shortly after this illness that the first symptoms of the physical ailment wah which caused her death occurred for her eight weeks of service as a red cross nurse during which time she took care of many flu patients mrs hood was awarded an honor badge and certificate from the red cross mrs hood was a benefit member in the local lodge of ladles ladies of the it was on november that mrs hood submitted to an operation at the holy cross hospital she ap feared to be making a satisfactory recovery but some weeks later bad had a reoccur ance of her trouble and failed rapidly until her death bellev ed her of intense suffering her mother mrs sarah arrigona who now lives at salt lake was at her bedside when the end came as were also her husband and daughter and many close friends of the family the deceased is survived by three brothers and two sisters peter dar rell and rulon arrigona mrs syrilla beadle and miss florence ar arigona all residents of salt lake city mrs P C hood s death is sincere ly regretted by the people of eure ka no resident of our city was more willing to help others in time of illness or sorrow this paper joins with other friends in extend ing sympathy to the husband and daughter to the mother and other members of the bereaved family funeral services were conducted at the L D S church in eureka on sunday afternoon being under the direction of the bishopric of which organization mr hood is a member the services were opened with a selection by the choir oh say what it truth which was followed by prayer by george simpkins the speakers were president E F birch of the stake perry D fuller bishop peter borup and prof I 1 L williamson of the school di brict E W redmond delivered deliver edthe the benediction other numbers by the choir were 0 01 my father and I 1 know my heavenly father knows while mrs sang some sweet day the pal pall bearers were A C bur ton toll W H jones N A hiatt joseph paulson eugene blackett ackett BI and J M beck the remains of mrs hood were shipped to salt lake tor for burial on monday morning and a brief service at the larkin undertaking parlors at 1 p m prece proceeded eded the burial at the city cemetery regarding the services at salt lake the tribune of wednesday says funeral services for mrs sadie A hood wife of P C hood of eu reka were held on monday afternoon at the larkin undertaking chapel bishop H 13 elder of toe the second ward had charge of the services and also spoke as did elder alvin wal lace recently returned from the central states mission of the L D S church music was furnished by miss bliss beulah white soloist and mrs leroy heath accompanist the closing prayer was offered by elder J H hales and the benediction was pronounced by elder jacob gibson of nephi the grave in the city aeme tery was dedicated by elder A N wallace of eureka mrs hood was wag active in the L D S church circle circles having been soloist in the eureka stake choir a member of the relief society of eureka ward and an of aicer in the eureka ward primary association |
