A reception will be held in their honor that evening from 6-9 p.m. in the Mayfield Town Hall at 52 N. Main Street. Nicholle is a 2003 graduate of Gunnison Valley High School, where she was an active basketball player. She received her associate’s degree from Snow College in May 2006. She is working on her bachelor’s degree at Weber State University, where she is majoring in athletic training and physical education. She plans to continue on in the Master of Education program. George is a 2002 graduate of North Sevier High School, where he was active in wrestling and football. He attended Snow College’s Richfield Campus and majored in graphic design. He is the co-manager of a KFC restaurant in Brigham City. George and Nicholle will make their home in Ogden. Nicholle is the granddaughter of Theldon and Pennie Myrup of Gunnison, and George and Janet Piep of Mayfield. George is the grandson of Lois Eckersley and the late Lyman Eckersley of Elmo, and the late Kyle and Shirley Torgersen of Salina. Pleasant are pleased to announce the marriage of their son, John, to Brecca Jean Tholen, daughter of Preston and Calee Tholen of Coalville. John and Brecca will be married in the Manti LDS Temple on June 6, 2008. Brecca is a 2007 graduate of North Summit High School and is currently studying culinary arts at Utah Valley University. John is a 2002 graduate of North Sanpete High School. He served in the Hermosillo, Mexico Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2004-2006. He is majoring in mechanical engineering at Utah Valley University. Milestones 80th - Maxine Garbe Shepherd Maxine Garbe Shepherd celebrated her 80th birthday on April 22, 2008. Her children will be honoring her at an open house on Saturday, June 7 at the Ephraim LDS South Ward Chapel, 115 E. 200 South, from 2-3:30 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend. Maxine Shepherd Obituaries Horace Waldon "Custer" Durrance Herbert Hancock and Lynette Squire Lynette Squire, the daughter of Nolan and Carolyn Squire of Gunnison, will marry Herbert Nicholas Hancock, the son of Don and Donna Hancock of South Jordan, on Friday, June 6, 2008 in the Manti LDS Temple. A reception will be held in their honor that night at the Gunnison Stake Center from 6-8 p.m. An open house will be held Saturday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the South Jordan Highland Stake Center (4000 W. 10200 South) in South Jordan. Everyone is invited to attend. Lynette graduated from Gunnison Valley High School and Snow College. She served in the Canada, Toronto West Mission for the LDS Church, and later attended Southern Utah University. She graduated with a medical laboratory degree from the University of Utah. Nicholas is a graduate of Copper Hills High School and Snow College. He served in the Argentina, Buenos Aires Mission for the LDS Church. He is graduating from Weber State University. The couple will make their home in South Ogden, where they are employed at Ogden Regional Hospital. Highway 118, Richfield 435-893-0105 Horace Waldon "Custer" Durrance, 84, passed away on May 30 at his home in Ephraim. Custer was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. Custer was born Jan. 18, 1924 in Bunnell, Fla. to Thomas Omega Durrance and Irene Mathilda Jeppson. During his childhood, Custer played in the woods, raised cattle with his father, and fished and hunted alligators with his brothers. His love for the outdoors continued throughout his life. Custer married his eternal sweetheart, LaVon "Bonnie" Neilson, on Jan. 10, 1969 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Custer served as a sergeant in World War II and was a member of the Marine Bombing Squadron 611. He had great love and pride for his country. Custer was a lineman by trade, working for Florida Power and Light for 18 years, and later at Kennecott Utah Copper. An active member of the LDS Church, Custer held several leadership positions in bishoprics, High Councils and scouting. He was a worker at the Jordan River Temple for 10 years. Custer's greatest treasures are his children and grandchildren. "Papa" is irreplaceable. Custer is survived by his wife, Bonnie; children, Wednesday, June 4, 2008 Horace Durrance Robert Durrance and Bonnie Durrance of Mebane, N.C.; Bryan (Stacey) Fletcher, and Billy (Amy) Noblett, all of Ephraim; sisters, Norma Turner and Johnnie Helms of Bunnell, Fla.; and eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 12 p.m. in the Bluffdale LDS Ward house, 14400 S. 1700 West, with a viewing from 10:30-11:30 a.m. An additional viewing will be held at the Ephraim LDS Church at 765 S. 100 East in Ephraim on Wednesday, June 4 from 4-6 p.m. Interment, with military honors, will be held at the Ephraim City Cemetery. The family said, “To meet Custer was to like him; to know him was to love him.” CALL FOR CONCESSION & TICKET BOOTH BIDS FOR SANPETE FAIR Kim LeRoy Bruschke, beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away May 27, 2008, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He endured with faith and courage the trial of a rare form of cancer known as cholangiocarcinoma. Kim was born March 22, 1947 to Albert Bernhardt and Zoe Pullman Bruschke in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School in 1965 and attended Weber State University before enlisting in the Marine Corps, where he served honorably in Vietnam as a radio operator and earned the rank of corporal. After returning home, Kim attended the University of Utah. He married Terri Sorenson. They were blessed with four wonderful and dear children: Joshua Kimble, Marcus Kimble, Kimberlee Ann and Emilee. Kim and Terri later divorced. Kim learned the value of work from his parents at an early age and was a dedicated and valued employee who worked diligently to provide for his growing family. He found his work as a Utah Highway Patrol officer fun and rewarding. Kim later worked for SWECO as a district manager. He was employed at Smith's Food and Drug for over 20 years. While at Smith’s, Kim served as a store director, assistant store director, security director and regional security director. He also drove bus 73 for the Washington County School District and had many rewarding experiences with the children and fellow employees. Kim enjoyed his associations with friends he met, and he continued to keep in touch with them. On June 16, 2001, Kim married Susan Ericksen Balser. They were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on June 20, 2002. Kim and Susan were the answer to each other’s prayers. There was a special peace and comfort that came to both of them as they grew together in an eternal bond that includes the children and grandchildren he and Susan adored. Kim had many interests, including fast cars, biking, golfing, reading, exercising, listening to all kinds of music and pets. He loved water fights, the ocean, a beautiful sunset, a good meal and holding little Kim Bruschke babies. Kim shared a special bond with his family, and they have many sweet memories of Christmases, birthdays, vacations and endearing times spent just being together. He was a fun, carefree and great guy. Kim was the Elders' Quorum President in his LDS ward, and he served in High Priest leadership positions. He had a special witness of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. His testimony of the gospel was strong, and when he shared it, hearts were touched. He was never afraid to show his sincere emotions about spiritual things. He was a great example to all who knew him. " We l l d o n e , t h o u good and faithful servant." Kim is survived by his wife, Susan, of St. George; his mother, Zoe P. Bruschke of St. George; children and grandchildren Joshua, Marcus (Brandi, Braxton, Maysen), Kimberlee (Rylee, Brandon), and Emilee (Ethan, Jayden), all of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters Leslye (Hal) Eckert, St. George; Deborah (Lance) Duffield, Las Vegas, Nev.; Tina (Warren) Taylor, Littleton, Colo.; and many other loving relatives. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the St. George LDS 7th Ward Chapel. Graveside services were held Monday, June 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Manti City Cemetery with military rites by the Manti American Legion Post 31. Lola Merriam Anderson Our kind and beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister and aunt, Lola Merriam Anderson, age 90 of Manti, died June 1, 2008 in Mayfield, Utah. Lola was born Oct. 29, 1917 in Manti to Clyde and Loretta Squires Merriam. She married Fredrick Moyle Anderson on June 24, 1940 in Nephi. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on July 3, 1951. Fredrick died in Aug. 1988. Lola was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She worked as a seamstress, sewing shirts, parachutes and clothing. She also worked at the pea cannery in Manti for many years. Lola is survived by her children, Owen Clyde Anderson of Bountiful; Diane Anderson of Bountiful; Kent (Sharon, deceased) Christensen of Gunnison; six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Anderson of Ephraim. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Loretta Merriam; husband, Fred- Lola Merriam Anderson rick Moyle Anderson; daughter, Sharon Christensen; son, Paul Moyle Anderson; and a brother, Roy Merriam. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Manti LDS Tabernacle, 90 S. Main Street in Manti, where friends may call. Viewing will be held Saturday morning from 9-10:30 a.m., prior to the services.
