George McKenna Two more plead guilty on turkey slaughter By John Hales Staff writer MANTI—Two more men have pleaded guilty in the case of 1,200 turkey that were clubbed to death in February 2004. On June 1, Colton Belliston, 20, and Cody Long, 24, both of Utah County, pleaded to one Making your Farm Work EASIER count each of Class A misdemeanor aggravated animal cruelty in 6th District Court. The two men are the last of four adults in the case to plead guilty, and will be sentenced on July 11 after the Utah Division of Adult Probation and Parole completes pre-sentence investigations for both men. Despite the results of those investigations, says Sanpete County deputy attorney Brody Keisel, the County Attorney’s Office will be “staunchly behind the same sentencing recommendations made in the cases of the other two co-defendants.” In those cases, Martin Smith, 20, and Travis Argyle 20, also of Utah County, each pleaded guilty to the same aggravated animal cruelty charge, and were each sentenced to serve 30 days in jail and pay $2,100 in restitution. They were also court-ordered to undergo psychological evaluations, and to complete any treatment recommendations as a result of those evaluations. Pre-sentence investigations were not performed for Smith and Argyle, and were recommended for Belliston and Long as a result of plea negotiations between prosecutors and Smith’s and Argyle’s defense attorney, Donald Gilbert, Jr., says Keisel. Asked by Judge David L. Mower if they had anything to say to the court, Belliston replied, “We’re just trying to make things right. That’s what we want to do.” Three juveniles in the case are being dealt with by juvenile court in Utah County. The Centerfield Legion members were appreciative of all those who came for the dedication of the veterans memorial. The memorial pays tribute to all who have been in the wars, and who had ever lived in Centerfield or Axtell or live there now. Heroes from the Black Hawk War, the first and second World Wars, and the Viet Nam and Korean Wars are all listed on the monument We do live in a great country, and many have paid for all of us to enjoy the freedoms that we do. Zedicher’s wife is a nurse and shares his passion to serve and follow Jesus Christ. “My passion has always been to teach the Bible as God’s word, and I believe he has the power to transform people’s lives through his truth,” Zedicher said. “My goal is to study and understand what God has said and communicate that in a such a way that people are brought into contact with the living Christ. “Our style is casual because God is more concerned with what is in a person’s heart than with how they adorn themselves outwardly,” Redicher said. “We emphasize worship of God because in worship we are fulfilling our design. My desire is to teach the word of God and give a firm foundation to people’s faith, so that they can grow deep, be fruitful and bring pleasure to our great God.” Visitors are welcome at the Ephraim Church of the Bible, 380 South 400 East, Ephraim.
