He was born Nov. 12, 1910 in Isabel, Kan., a son of D. E. (Gene) Houghtaling and Martha (Mattie) Bently Houghtaling. He married Beulah Thurston on May 13, 1935 in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Isabel, Kan. Walter was a retired stockman and farmer. He lived and farmed in Kansas all of his life. He was awarded the first Soil Conservation Award in Kearny County on terracing terrac-ing farms. Walter was a devoted father fa-ther and grandfather. He was a faithful husband and a good neighbor. neigh-bor. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters. sis-ters. He is survived by his wife, Beulah T. Houghtaling, Vernal; daughters, Christine Bonnie, Vernal, Marylin Swarthley, Olathe, Kan., Gail Haws, Eugene, Ore., and son, Jonathan Houghtaling of Manhattan, Kan; 9 grandchildren, Mark Bonnie and Lauri Berry of Vernal, Kathy, Melanie, Michael and Kelly Swarthley of Olathe, Kan., Maria Haws of Eugene, Ore., Lisa Haws of Vallejo, Calif., Shelly Houghtaling of Pittsburg, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Julie and Douglas Bonnie, Vernal, Alana Berry, Vernal, and Christopher Swarthley, Olathe, Kan. Walter will be greatly missed for a long time by his family and friends. Funeral services were Friday, March 28, 1997 at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary with Pastor Carl Koons officiating. John 14:1-4 was offered for the opening scripture, followed by the invocation and the obituary. Louann was born June 13, 1948, to George "Tex" and Nora Louise Taylor Ross in Roosevelt. She married mar-ried C. Max Allen on April 4, 1969 and had six loving children. Louann and Max were later divorced. di-vorced. On June 23, 1990, she married Verl K. Bindrup, who brought her six wonderful stepchildren. Louann worked hard throughout her life and was a very loving and giving mother. Her work with and love for the elderly were predominant in her later years. She was the administrator administra-tor of Williamsburg Retirement Inn for six years and was responsible for many changes there. She was also president of the URCA (Utah Residential Care Association) and brought her love and unique talents to that organization. Many remember remem-ber Louann's love of music, her beautiful voice and her talent with the guitar. Louann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and used her musical mu-sical talent, serving as choir director direc-tor and ward chorister. She also served in Primary, MIA and Relief Society presidencies and taught in Relief Society for many years. Louann is survived by her husband, hus-band, Verl K.; her six children, Max T. Allen, Andrea and Bob Vlaanderen, Amber, Jory, Heathcrlyn and Aaron Allen; five stepchildren, Brad and Troy Bindrup, Tami Rawlins, Holly and Sherm Buck, Kristy and Tony Loosle, Lisa and Steve Baker; and 12 grandchildren. She is also survived by her father and stepmother, step-mother, Mary, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were Saturday, March 29, 1997 at the Logan 16th Ward Chapel, 125 W. 600 N. Born Sept. 18, 1904 in Provo.l George Henry and Bertha Irinc McEwan Elliott. He married Hunsaker, May 6, 1925 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed' away Sept. 27, 1983. He was an active ac-tive member of the Naples First Ward and the Jordan Oaks Ninth Branch West in Jordan. The things he found most important were his testimony of the church and his family. He loved family reunions and Christmas gatherings. Clawson was a hard worker, and was employed with coal mines in Standardville, Griffin Wheel Co. in Salt Lake City, Elliott Merc in Mt. Emmons, and Vernal City. He worked until he was 83 years old. He is survived by children, Karma and Keith Smuin, Ferris and Nola Elliott, Mrs. LaDon (Leda) Elliott, Carol and Jay Wall, Darlene and Jay Robinson, Betty and Rex Smuin, Sherryl and Ivan Sadlier; 35 grandchildren; grand-children; 81 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, sis-ter, Ethel Hight; two sisters-in-law, June Oakden and Wanda Soto; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, LaDon; a daughter, LaVona; two brothers, Alma and Walter Elliott, sisters, Erma McMillen, Leah Green, Bessie Gourdin and Laura Johnson. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at the Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary. Interment was in the Farmington City Cemetery. Julia Malheny offered the invocation, invoca-tion, Patricia Gavin read a poem in tribute. Speakers were Cecil Gurr and Gary Gurr. Nicole Matheny played a piano solo tilled "Come Take My Hand." She also joined Julia Matheny, Cindy Walker, Caprcll Hunt and Austin Hunt to sing "A Child's Prayer." They were accompanied by Andrea Davenport. Cindy Walker played "O Divine Redeemer." She was born Jan. 7, 1909 in Vernal, a daughter of Daniel Adams and Maria Annie Gillespie Adams. She married Charles Fredrick Anderson on April 21, 1930 in Vernal. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Aug. 20, 1931. Her usband died Nov. 11, 1968. I Edna was a homemaker. He was born August 10, 1945 in Vernal, a son of Vera Mott and Alice S. Abegglen Mott. He married Michelle Whitson on January 20, 1985 in Las Vegas, Nev. She died June 14, 1995. Eddie worked in the oil field in sales and service. He was a member of the L.D.S. Church. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He enjoyed racing rac-ing horses and all kinds of sports. He is survived by a daughter, Alison Schaefermeyer, Salt Lake City; sisters and brothers, Bernice and Francis Richins, Utah, Jack and Rosalyn Mott, Larie and June Mott, Connie and Morgan Lee all of Vernal. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 1, 1997 in the Lapoint Cemetery under the direction direc-tion of Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. Darrel Mitchell Darrell AJonzo Mitchell, 60, of Manila died March 24, 1997 at his home. He was born May 6, 1936 in Rock Springs, Wyo., a son of Scott Bennett Mitchell and Grace Isabell Lamb Mitchell. He married Norma Louise Roney in Manila. He was owner and operator of 3-M Market in Manila since 1978. Darrell served in the United States Navy for five years. He was a land surveyor for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid pilot. He helped with many community fund raising programs. He is survived by sons, Kevin Mitchell and Kirk Mitchell both of Salt Lake City; stepmother, Viona Mitchell of Manila; brothers, Stanley S. Mitchell, Sadona, Ariz., Steven R. Mitchell, Green River, Wyo.; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Linda Leith of Manila, Elizabeth Anderson of Vernal, Valerie Winter of Green River, Wyo., Kerry Slaugh of Vernal, Victor Mitchell of Vernal, and Deana Mitchell of Manila. Flaming Gorge releases now at capacity FLAMING GORGE - Releases from Flaming Gorge Reservoir are now at power plant capacity of 4,600 cfs. Releases will likely be maintained at this level until mid-July. mid-July. Inflow into Flaming Gorge during the month of March has been much above average. The National Weather Service final March forecast fore-cast predicted 110,000 acre-feet of inflow in March. However, the reservoir is on track to receive over 240,000 acre-feet of inflow this month. This will "shatter" the March record of 190,000 acre-feet set in 1972. Snowpack in the Upper Green River Basin is currently 135 percent of normal. Snowpack in the Yampa River Basin is currently 125 percent of normal (values as of March 27, 1997). The March 1 NWS forecast predicts pre-dicts 1,800,000 acre-feet (151 percent per-cent of normal) of inflow into Flaming Gorge during the April-July April-July time period. Flaming Gorge will likely be full by mid summer. Open forum discussions on Flaming Gorge operations have been taking place at meetings of the "Flaming Gorge Working Group." The next Working Group meeting is scheduled for April 10 at II a.m. in Vernal.
