Show Uintah Basin Standard Page 8 Thunk, July 38, I960 MONTWEL by Nola Nelson Rites held for Emma E. Bacon The community mourns the passing away of another pioneer, Mrs. Emma Etta Pierce Bacon. She was bom May 23, 1890, in Preemont, Wayne Co., married Chancey Bacon (deceased) Dec. 10, 1908 in Mantl Temple. They came here at the opening of Basin, first living In Hoyden before moving to Cederview. Ten children bleased this union. Sister Etta was an ardent worker, both as a mother and in different church offices traveling miles most of the time with team and wagon to attend meetings and transport help to neighbors. She also helped out with sickness in the homes. When the Bacons moved from their farm home to what was known as town site, she threw her home wide open to hold their meetings, thus saving long travel to the ward hall. This was when Cedarvlew was a branch of the Montwel Ward. Many of the younger people hold fond memories of these times at the Bacon home. Services were held in Belvedere 2nd Ward chapel in Salt Lake where Mrs. Bacon and children moved In 1945. Bishop Richard Harper conducted. Family prayer was given by Russell Bacon (son), prelude and postlude music. Mabel Shelley; obituary.
