Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Wanship Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Oakley Cemetery. Seedlings Available The Lone Peak State Nursery ,in Draper, still has a good supply of tree and shrub seedlings available for sale. Both barcroot and containerized seedlings arc available with delivery set for the middle of April in local areas. Species still available include blue spruce, hy-bpopular, Austrian and scotch pine, and common lilac. The seedlings can be utilized for conservation projects such as windbreaks, erosion control, Christmas rd tree plantations, etc. Seedlings cannot be used for landscaping purposes. Trees for these needs should be purchased from a local retail nursery. Free technical assistance is available from State Lands and Forestry to help plan windbreaks, Christmas tree plantations, or any planting project you may have. Utah Cattle Numbers Rebound Slightly t 'm'. - ft Utah cattle and calf inventory on farms apd ranches as of Jan. 1, 1989, totaled 770,000 head, accord--., ing to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service. This was a slight rebound from the 20 year low of 760.000 set a year ago but 19 percent below the record high 1983 level of 950,000. Beef cow numbers were down 3.000 head, to a Jan. 1 Icyel of 315,000. Milk cow inventory, at 74.000 head, was up 1,000 head from last year. Beef heifer replacements, at 56,000 head, were up 10 percent from last year, while ilk heifer replacements, at 39,000 head. were up 11 percent from the Jan. 1, 1988 level. Other heifers, not intended for replacement purposes, totaled a 2,000 head in44.000 head crease from last year. The inventory level of steers weighing more than 500 pounds was 94,000 head, up 4.000 head from Jan. 1, 1988. Bull inventory was 21,000 head, up 3.000 from a year ago. The 1988 calf crop of 352,000 head was one percent above the 1987 level. Calves, weighing less than 500 pounds, on hand as of Jan. 1. 1989, totaled 127,000 head a five percent decrease from last year. |
