Show Suzuki Strings Performs December 10 KANAB More than 40 violinists took to the stage Saturday evening, Dec. 10, to entrance Kanab with a Variety Arts concert-goer- s program of classical and Christmas music. The Suzuki Strings, a string orchestra made up of violinists and cellists of all ages from southern Utah and northern Arizona, entertained a smattering audience with a series of short musical pieces that showed off the musicians techniques. Sara Penny, director of the Suzuki Strings, explained during the concert that the Suzuki Strings consists of groups of stringed instrument students learning under the Suzuki method. The teaching method has students take both private and group lessons and emphasizes learning technique prior to reading music. TheSuzuki Strings presented their program in a recital format, those students who were not participating in a musical piece sat in the audience until called to play. Although this format seemed unprofessional, it was accomplished without loss of time or confusion. One of the highlights of the performance was watching parents play alongside their children. Locally, Larry and Donna Casebolt and Dr. Avnish Pandya participated in several of the pieces performed. The majority ol performers were between the ages of eight and 17, however, fiddling furiously on the front row was a three-yeold Tad Casebolt and a old Ben Cotts. On the other extreme, seven adults participated in the program as well. Overall, the Suzuki Strings concert was delightful and was and excellent advertisement for the Suzuki teaching method. Unfortunately for the Kanab Variety Arts and the Suzuki Strings, the turn out was meager. Kanab Variety Arts Council President Tish Dahmen said she hopes that next months selection, Loren Kahns Puppet Theatre, scheduled for Jan. 19, will draw a larger ar six-ye- ar Cindy Davey and Boyd Corry Wedding Dec. 17 KANAB Jim and Connie Davey and Mary Hester are proud to announce the marriage of their daughter and granddaughter, Cindy, to Boyd Corry, son of Lamar and Anita Corry of Kanab.
