Show RICH COUNTY REAPER. RANDOLPH, UTAH. WOODRUFF NEWS THE OLD JUDGE SAYS... Randolph Wednesday a tea was given for the mothers at our school. A display of art of our county was displayed at the school for the inspection of the mothers. A very fine program given by the school children and the tea was all very fine and every mother there really en, joyed it very much. Mr. Dee Comia is home on furlough from the armed services. We always welcome our boys home and hope they have an enjoyable time. , Silas Ellis is also home on furlough. These boys that come home look fine and we are proud of them. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dean are in town visiting with relatives and friends. He came in Wednesday night. We are glad for folks that have lived here to return to visit us. Mr. Keith Comia went to Soda Springs for an picture of hi9 arm that was injurde on a field day trip, but they found that his arm was broken and would need a silver plate to fix it and that he would have to remain at the hospital for a few days. Mrs. Reed Comia left Tuesday to go to Provo to spend a few days with her mother at Provo. She was accompanied by Mrs. Red Bruce of Almy. They are to spend Mothers Day there. School ended Friday with joy and saddness. The children and teachers were happ as nearly every child was Piorrr . My husband having been appointed as stake president, with headquarters at Evanston in the year 1898, but we did not move to Evanston unitil August 15, 1919. r I was appointed a member of the stake Relief Society while Sister Ester Thomas was president, and released when the stake Relief Society Board was reorganized and Sister Thomas released. I saw the first train come into Salt Lake City. I have seen many wonders sin the heavens and on the earth, from the covered wagon to the automobile, the radio and airplane. My husband passed to the Beyond July 17, 1936. I am now in my 80th year and I am looking forward to meeting all my many friends that have gone before me to their rest and rewards. Hes in Kentucky .. .the familys fine and they all like it there. George says he has a fine job in a beverage distillery. He brought out an interesting point in his letter I hadnt thought of before. He said hat while the beverage distillers are working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week turning I out war alcohol for the government for ammunition, tires, medical supplies and chemicals, they still are able to account for nearly a billion and a half dollars in taxes each year. Thats on account of the fact the beverage distillers, though working 100 for the govt ament, are still able to supply the public with beverages from the reserve stocks made during peacetime. Max McKinnon who has been with the U. S. armed forces - stationed - in California is home on a furlough. Mrs. Rachei Wilson and' Miss Mary McKinnon left Wednesday for California. Mrs. Wilson to see her son Matt Pickett, and Mary to see Owen Wahl-stroThe two soldiers are training in the Air Corps. Alma Argyle, who has been on a two year mission for the LDS church, in the Northwestern States, returned home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Layton Marshall of Ogden spent Mother's Day in Randolph visiting relatives and friends. Wilson Norris motored to Ogden Wednesday for Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mr. Corless has been in the hospital for some time. Leonard Bingham, son Fred and daughter Ella Mae, of Ogden, came Friday to attend the graduating class of South Rich High. Miss Kathryn McKinnon of Nephi and Miss Emma Lou MciKinnon of Ogden spent Mothers Day at Evanston at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Burleigh. Their mother, Mrs. Ernest McKinnon meet them there. Mr. and Mrs. Thoy Hatch are sporting a new car. They went to Ogden Wednesday. Mrs. .Hatch is seeking medical aid. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Marshall and son Lanny, of Ogden are spending a weeks vacation with relatives in Randolph and Evanston. Mrs. Bess Rex and Mrs. Rosetta Rex and baby daughter went to Salt Lake last Friday. They returned home Wednesday. Mrs. Bess Rex sang a solo at the funeral services of Mrs. Agnes Baxter, held at Evanston Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Kennedy who have been in Ogden.and Tremanton have moved back to Randolph. Mr. Kennedy expects to be transferred to California. Mrs. Ivan Kennedy of Ogden was a visitor at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Marshall and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Kennedy a short time ago. Miss Ruth McKinnon left for Ogden Sunday. Ruth expects to get employment there. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Findlay and sons of Ogden spent Mothers Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Johnson. Mr. and Mrs Grant Marshall and two daughter of Ogden spent Mothers Day at the home of Mr and Mrs. R. G. Marshall. Mrs. Arthur G. Barton, who was operated upon at Logan, Is reported on the mprove by her husband, Who returned from the hospital Tuesday. Pvt. Jesse Limb s home on a short furlough. ' He came last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gale McKinnon are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby boy, bom at the Kemmerer Hospital Satur- - apologize. Corr. Commencement exercises and program of the North Rich High School was held Thursday night in the ward chapel, directed by Prin. Kenneth E. Muir, and announced by Calvin E. Sims. Preliminary patriotic music on trumpet and piano played by Band Director Carl J. Stuart and Miss Jessie Mecham. The program was patriotic in effect, when standard hoarers Am!l Earley, Glendon Barker and Delford Webb marched in carrying the U. Other members of the school board from the county seat were present. The commencement dance followed in the Ward hall with Hugh Shepherd and his orchestra. A large crowd attended from this and neighboring vicinities. The teachers have returned to their homes for the summer: Mrs. Lanyon to Salt Lake, Miss Jessie Mecham to Nephi, Mrs. Jennie Keari to her home at Kona Lulu farms, Carl Stuart to Randolph, Kenneth Muir is moving his family to Ogden for the summer, and Grant Lamborn has assumed the position of water maste. With all, the school has had quite a successful year, considering circumstances. M. Lynn Bennion of the Stake Seminary Dept., from Sandy, Utah, r paid a call on Prin. K E Muir, last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ren Orwin and daughter Janice of Randolph were visit ors here Thursday. James Taylor and some friends from Logan were here for .the Commencement exercises. Men Loa Putnam, Mae Eastman, Clarence Eastman, Delos Dean and Wayne Stacey. There were many out ox town folks who attended the dance: Jerry, Nola and Mrs. Elden Madison, Loraine Dean of Evanston, Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton of Evanston. The music was from Evanston. It was all very fine We wish the graduates a happy and successful future. Saturday evening Shirley Cox was taken to Evanston to meet the bus to return to his training came after a ten day furlough. We were glad to see him home and hate to see him go back, but wish him luck. Saturday evening a party was given in honor of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Tmgey. They came this week for Marcel and Nila Ruth, who were left here to finish their school year. A program was given, also games were played and some A present was presented to dancign. them, showing our love and respect for them and appreciation of their labors here with us. Sunday morning a special program was held in honor of mothers. There were songs, recitations, readings, musical selections, presented also a booklet of poetry- was given every mothers there. Many out of town people came to honor their mother- on this special occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Ting-eMr. and Mrs. Bruce Frodsham and family, Mr and Mrs. Waldo Dean and family, Mr Elden Putnam and family, DeWayne Dean and family, Bob Wam-sle- y and family, Sheldon Dickson and family, Ivan Cuist and family, Hazen Atkinson and family, Virginia Putnam Mary Brown and many others. It is wonderful that a day ha9 been set aside for Mothers Day, but lets us make each day a Mothers Day. Miss Roka Tipgey has been here visiting for several days and returned home Sunday with her brother Willard. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Putnam received a letter Saturday informing them that Howard had arrived safely overseas. We are glad they heard from him and we wish him the best of luck and a speedy return. Miss Fae Longhurst spent the week end home. She Is at Ogden training to be a nurse. We wish her success. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dean were here the week end to attend the graduating Their son Delos, graduated exercises. from South Rich this year. They will return Monday to their work at Skull Valley. We wish them success, t Old man weather seems to hate to leave us for he seems to have made himself right at home the last few days. Grant Putnam and wife were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Comia a few days this last week. He is on furlough' and came here to spend a few days. His home is in Salt Lake City, but he was bom here, and lived here for six. or seven years. He is Pete Putnams son and nephew of Melvin Putnam. We hope he fenjoyed himself very. much. Ms. Agnes Smith Baxter of Evanston died Saturday at the home of Mr. John Neson. She and her husband livi ed here in our community many years. Her husband was bishop and stake president while living here. She was never blessed with a family of her own but raised several children who were left homeless. She was a faithful member of the LDS church. Her home here was what is now occupied by the Sam Kiddy family. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at Evanston. Her husband died in 1936. Funeral Wednesday t - " Funeral services were held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday in the L. D. S. First ward chapel. The service was conducted by Bishop Ralph S. Uinta County Herald l - - News From Kearns y, The "Kearns Mothers Mrs. Callie Herrington of Palestine, Texas, arrived here Friday. As she stepped off the T ",le City she was greettrain ed by her son Vergil, who is stationed iat this army air force basic training center, and a full military escort. Private Herrington, whose ballot m a recent contest made his mother the "KEARNS MOTHER for an tour to this post, was accompanied to the station by a detachment from the M.P. guard squadron of which he is a member. Mrs. Herrington revewed the regular Saturday morning parade with the commanding officer, Colonel Converse R. Lewis, after which she was conducted on a tour of the post in a staff car. At noon Saturday, Mayor Ab Jenkins officially welcomed Mrs. Herrington and her son to Sait Lake City. A luncheon was held in , thedr honor at the Lion House after which they visited the Morman Tabertnacle and the Temple grounds. Bishop LeGrand Richards wove his sermon, on Sunday, around the visit of Mrs. Herrington on Mothers Day. After visiting the points of interest in the Salt Lake City area the Keiirns Mother and her son returned to the Posts Service Cub, where she is residing during her visit. Her son was rlieved of all duties for the week end. Chapel services were attended by the mother and son on Sunday morning and Sunday dinner was served to them in the mess hall of Private Herringtons squardron. At 6:45 "Sergeant Q interviewed the pair on radio station KSL. Mrs. Herrington,' motherof six sons, has two other hoys in service. John, a lieutenant in the air corp, and Joseph, a private in the infantry On Mothers Day a year ago I was not in the air corps slid Private "and I have always been with my mother on Mothers Day.
