It was recognized more than two years ago that complete attainment of the established PATTERSON A sophisticated AFB, Ohio new management system instituted in November by the Air Force Logistics Command is paying dividends by providing more timely information on a vital segment of the command's responsibilities. Through the Air Force Recoverable Assembly Management System (AFRAMS), AFLC managers are receiving information more rapidly and more completely on key materiel in which the Air Force has a $5 billion investment. The basic concept of AFRAMS provides for improved life cycle management of costly, technical items for which depot level repair is planned. These items are recoverable assemblies which go into higher assemblies or end items to make up weapon or support systems. They are subject to significant production lead times and to engineering and design changes during their life cycles. - AFRAMS objectives was not possible under existing conditions. Limitations included the data processing hardware possessed by AFLC, the existing communications capability and the amount of time required to design, develop, test, and install the system. As a result, the effort was divided into two phases Phase I, which was put into operation in November, and Phase II, which has been incorporated 's into the master plan for Advanced Logistics System. AF-LC- Goals Attained Repair Items may be removed and repaired when unserviceable. AFLC has responsibility for any repair of these items which They l lHOltO I Objectives attained with the Nov. 1 implementation include: a common item identification base for all Air Force-use- d items; daily asset and stock level knowledge for recoverable assemblies for all Air Force activities; and knowledge of recoverable items intransit between Air Force activities.
