For one thing, the proximity of more mental health resources in the community, as these services are developed in accord with local needs and desires, will lead to changes in the ways people seek hep for mental illness and in the ways it is provided them. This, in turn, should lead to further changing of public attitudes for the good of all concerned. (Utah) JOURNAL THE HELPER AUG. THURSDAY, PAGE THREE KERSHNER-ROW- M-D- 1970 13, E . COMMENTARY "The difference between a boutique and a store is plainly explained on the price tags." PUBLIC ATTITUDES What are the public's attitudes toward mental illness and the people who are emotionally or mentally ill? Public understanding and attitudes based on fact rather than superstition are essential to finding and treating mental illness effectively and to preventing mental illn-- s and fostering mental health. This is particularly important now that there are community mental baalth centers growing up a! over the country, allowing greater numbers of mentally ill persons to be treated in. their community to the community's advantage as well as theirs. fiflTSflQT Ir 472-523- 472-332- 472-564- for freedom SIGN UP FOR U.S. SAVINGS BONDS NEW FREEDOM SHARES f .. 1 4. 637-332- Do your share iF Surveys1 have been made to find out what the public'.; understanding and attitudes are. Now, with a track record extending over two millennia, it develops that the Church herself the institution which claims to be rooted historically in the New Testament is in need of salvation. Having turned her back on Jesus Christ, abandoned the Gospel and flouted the Word of God, a very large segment of the contemporary Church lias embarked on a humanistic binge and is so hopelessly lost at sea that she stands in need of salvation. FOR FDSCAL YEAR ENDDNG JUNE 30, 1970 wandering in apostasy. The Church is taking an active part in the youth revolt. Obscene publications are rolling off the Church presses. Political revolution is being spawned in Church institutions. Clergymen are preaching and publishing sermons on far-otopics like "The Advantages of Adultery." In e certain circles the of hippiedom is creeping in, complete with long, uncombed hair, weird music and psychedelic effects. Secular magazines are coming out with articles which rebuke the Church under titles like "The Surprising Beliefs of our Future Ministers," "An Obituary For God," and "Are the Churches In Trouble?" TIME magazine focuses on the "Christian atheists," and credits them with "walking the chuixhes to the brutal reailty that the basic premise of faith the existence of a personal God, who created the world and sustains it with His love is now subject to profound attack." The situation has gone to such an absurd extreme that even some of the Protestant liberals are concerned. Dr. I'. J. ut Honorable Mayor land City Council Helper, Utah 84526 August Fire Department: ?
