Mariann Marchant, SSES reading specialist, and Jeena Woolstenhulme, Americorp Volunteer, designed a Family Literacy Night that blended wonderfully with parent-teacher conferences. During conferences, teachers gave each student a literacy checklist that included these literacy areas; writing, phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, fluency, Christmas literacy ideas, vocabulary and reading and writing on-line. During individual conferences, teachers talked with families about which areas of literacy their children needed extra help and support. These areas were marked on the checklist and then families went to the literacy fair in the gym to look for ideas to enhance literacy at home. Families visited the booths that were checked on their card. Title I para-educators and specialists gave NOTICE The Bee Office will be closed Thurs. Nov. 24lh & Fri. Nov. 25 h for Thanksgiving.
