Local Area FFA Chapter Receives National Ranking The National FFA Organization recently selected, from a pool of more than 600 candidates nationwide, the North Summit High School FFA Chapter of Coalvillc, as a 3-star winner in the National FFA Chapter Award program. The chapter members have been invited to attend the 79th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN, Oct. 25-28, where they will be recognized for this honor. The award program is sponsored by Toyota and Land O' Lakes Foundation as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The National FFA Chapter Award program recognizes FFA chapters for developing and conducting a detailed Program of Activities (POA). Each activity provides opportunities for members to excel in one of three areas: student, chapter or community development. Every year, chapters are recognized as having earned a one-, two- or three-star rating on their application. The threestar rating is the highest level of accomplishment a chapter may achieve. FFA is a national youth organization of 490,017 student members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture with 7,210 local chapters in all 50 stales, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through education in agricultural science. Superintendent's Corner STATIONARY & BUSINESS CARDS, BROCHURES, SALES SHEETS, RACK CARDS, Once again school has begun and with the beginning of school brings the hustle and bustle of school activities, athletic events, and club happenings. When school begins, there is a tremendous increase in the amount of traffic thai occurs around the school buildings. I have been to the schools at the beginning of the day and also at the end of the day, I have watched, as the busses arc loading and unloading, parents picking up and dropping off their children, and high school students driving to and from school. There is an incredible amount of activity. Please take a moment to think about all this activity and make a conscious effort to be as safe as possible. Parents, if you have high school students that drives, take a few moments and talk to them about driving safely in all situations, but more importantly talk to them about driving safely and cautiously in school zones. I also have concern regarding the school and street crosswalks in general. Prior to the beginning of school, the Coalvillc City Maintenance Staff did a very nice job painting all of the crosswalks. Please be aware of those crosswalks and respect them. It is state law that pedestrians have the right of way, especially in the crosswalks. I have watched as children stand at a crosswalk, and car after car goes by not offering the right of way to the children. This entire concept is mostly a behavioral issue. It takes awareness first, then a conscious effort to change our behavior. Please be aware that safety issues deal with the most precious commodity on the face of the earth, OUR CHILDREN. For the safety of our children, please drive slowly, attentively, Sophomore Jaci Evans has been turning in some great times in Cross Country. and cautiously in all school zones.
