They belong to the Utah Valley Youth Symphony (UVYSO), and were selected as all-star performers from among the members of the top youth orchestras and symphonies in Utah. In preparation for the concert, Colin, Caroline and the other selected students attended sectional rehearsals where they were mentored by Utah Symphony musicians. Student orchestra rehearsals were directed by Associate Conductor, Scott O'Neil. They had a final rehearsal sitting side-by-side with the Utah Symphony musicians where they were able to interact and ask questions about the music, their instruments, and careers in music. The Utah Symphony Concert was entitled "All- Star Evening". The all-star performers played in the second half of the concert with the Utah Symphony playing excerpts from "Romeo and Juliet" by Sergei Prokofiev and "Academic Festival Overture" by Johannes Brahms. Mountainland Applied Technology College will open its new location in Spanish Fork next to American Leadership Academy, Utah's largest charter school, just in time for Fall 2006 classes. Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) has wanted toexpand its locations to Spanish Fork for a few years, says Kristin Morely, board member for American Leadership Academy (ALA). Once ALA was approved for the site off Del Monte Road, the opportunity arose to develop a neighboring parcel of land for the MATC site. "This area has a lot of kids who want to participate in vocational education," Morely says; "The best part about it is that MATC has immediate clientele right across the street." ALA students will be able to walk from campus to campus, eliminating long commutes, and get a start on an associates degree or learn vocational skills while still in high school. ALA students will also receive high school credit for classes they take through MATC. Students can learn a trade that could put them through college, or learn a professional trade without going the route of.a traditional 4-year college or university. "With the completion of the new Spanish Fork location, program directors will be able to offer full range of programs to students and adults in the area that have not been offered in the past," Lionel Blau says, Vice-President of customized and short-term training at MATC. "We are really anxious to get things going." Students and adults who enroll in MATC programs learn immediate skills that will help advance their careers. Anyone can enroll in MATC courses. Tuition and fees vary according to the registered course. Classes offered range from automotive technology to health technology to multimedia technology. The MATC building is currently under construction and is slated to open August 23, 2006. CANYON DENTAL "We think the Spanish Fork location will definitely fill the needs of everyone in the southern corner [of Utah County] as we grow and help students," Mark Middlebrook says. Director of Marketing at MATC. "It's a win-win situation and we are excited to work with American Leadership Academy. As we help the [American Leadership] Academy, they help us." Orem and American Fork are already home to MATC's other locations. High demand and the need for more space bring MATC to Spanish Fork. MATC currently offers classes from the Nebo Learning Center and the Nebo technical center located next to Spanish Fork High School. All courses will be administered from the Del Monte Road location once it is completed. MATC is one of nine campuses statewide that make up the Utah College of Applied Technology. While MATC has two associate degree programs, the majority of its classes help adults and high school students complete certificate programs. Classifieds PERSONAL DR.
