Show University Journal Monday, January 10, 2005 sir Continued from Page 8 to quite a few times. I trim my hair every one-hatwo months. My hair sometimes get tangled badly when its dry, but when its wet, its easy to brush out. I wanted a deep conditioner for my hair, so we mixed one-hacup of honey together with a recipe we found at cup of pure canola oil lf one-fourt- lf www.1011ifestyle.combeautyhaircarelocks.html. Of all the pain I have suffered in my life, I must say, this was pretty bad. The honey and oil mixture refused to spread and as Holly added it to my hair, it pulled and weighed my head down. Ironically, Holly seemed to enjoy my anguish as she applied the mixture. She laughed and giggled almost the entire time. Its so sticky, Holly said. Wherever you put the honey, it stays. You cant move it or squish it. Its weird. If you enjoy pain, I highly recommend the honey and oil treatment. The recipe was required to stay in my hair for at least 30 minutes. After applying the deep conditioner, I wanted to make a shampoo. We looked over all of the shampoo recipes (which I had found at various Web sites), and decided to mix and mingle from several ingredients different recipes into one. We mixed one-hacup of water, one tablespoon of vinegar, one teaspoon of rosemary, two Holly tablespoons of mayonnaise (we wanted to make a shampoo and conditioner) and one egg. It mixed together well. I was to use this mixture to help wash out the honey. After 45 minutes of having the honey sit in my hair, Holly was finally done in the shower. and shampooing Holly said after several conditioning, the banana chunks still did not come out of her hair. She said the avocado mixture came out without any trouble. The avocado rinsed out really well and left my hair soft, Holly reported in a written statement about her experience. The banana refused to wash out, she added. I shampooed and conditioned my hair three times and I still had large clumps of banana. After the first shampoo my hair wasnt sticky, it was only infested with banana. I proceeded to brush my hair while it was wet to see if that helped. It didnt. A few more shampoos and I gave up. The chunks should fall out in a week or so, right? it was my While Holly sat and let her hair turn for the shower. Because Holly had been in for at least 45 minutes, I was left with nothing but extremely cold water. All I could do was stand and lean forward into the water, washing my hair upside down. The freezing water drops were like sharp, shards of ice stabbing my body. It was close to the worst shower of my life. The honey mixture had no trouble washing out. To be on the safe side, I did shampoo my hair twice, followed by the homemade shampoo. I doubt if the homemade shampoo was effective at all. It was watery and trickled down through my hair. I must say, for a deep conditioner, my hair was left extremely tangled. Holly helped me brush out the side of my hair that had the honey in it and after it was dry, that side of my hair was barely softer than the side we hadnt treated my hair is naturally quite smooth. When Hollys hair was finally dry, we were able to brush out the rest (an excessive amount) of the banana chunks. It left the floor of our bathroom covered in chunks not a pleasant sight. small, booger-lik- e After conducting these experiments. Holly and I offer the following recommendations: if youre looking to shine and soften your hair, stick with the avocado and egg mixture. However, double or triple the amounts. I would also use an electric mixer to liquefy the contents. As far as the banana mixture. Holly said it was successful in clumping her hair successful together and making her night a living nightmare. She doesnt recommend using it. For the honey and oil mixture, I say, like the banana and honey, it is more trouble than its worth. It was painful to put in and to get out. Like I said before, I have no idea if the shampoo we made even did anything. Even though we didnt try every recipe I had found, I think there are some great ideas. a common For instance, mixture known to women is and mayonnaise combining You eggs. If you dont like putting food in your hair, there are other options to saving money on your shampoo and conditioner. In order to conserve my favorite conditioner, I have always put about a third of the amount I would normally use on my hair into an empty conditioner bottle. I fill that bottle about half full with water and then shake it to mix the contents. The conditioner is diluted, but it is just as effective as putting straight conditioner on my hair. This method has saved me a lot of money because I buy $6 a bottle. very expensive conditioner Andrea Bartholomew, who My sister-in-lasaid rotating happens to be an shampoos can help reduce buildup. For those who struggle with hair growth, either not enough or not fast enough, the one thitjg I have found that works for me is simply massaging my scalp when I wash my hair. Not only does it stimulate blood to the surface and into the hair follicles, but it can also help release any buildup on your scalp. Another way to promote hair growth is by mixing equal quantities of olive oil and spirit of rosemary with a few drops of oil of nutmeg. Then rub the roots of the hair every night with a little of this liniment, and the growth of it will very sensibly increase, reported www.beauty.about.com.
