Show Monday, January 10, 2005 University Journal Page 4 u Baby welcomes 2005 v L J St. George greets newborn 35 seconds after midnight By ABBY PALMER apalmersuujoumal.com Steven and Heather Cannon are not only the proud parents of Dixie Regional Medical Centers First Baby of 2005, they also won the title of Utah's First Baby of 2005. The St. George couples son, Logan Wilford Cannon, made his grand entrance into the world a mere 35 seconds after midnight on New Years Day. Logan won Utahs race for First Baby of 2005 by 28 minutes. The next baby born in Utah was Lainie Hunt, daughter of Chelsy and Todd Hunt of Riverton. Logan weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 2 inches long. He has sandy brown hair and dark blue eyes. Logan was a week late, and his mother was delighted when he arrived. I thought it was kind of neat he decided to come right at the New Year, Heather Cannon said. I was also relieved that he was finally here. Steven Cannon said he wasnt expecting a New Years Baby, made his but when Logan appearance, he couldnt have been more thrilled. It was a lot of fun to have him born on New Years Day, Steven Cannon said. It was quite unexpected where he was due a week before, but as it came closer and closer to midnight, I started thinking this might be a New Years baby. With Logan being the first baby born in the New Year, his he and were family babies are special. It was a particular honor to welcome Utah's out in the Outdoor Center. - h ISew Year's Jessica and Jaren were not allowed in to see Logan in the hospital. This is the hospitals rule that children under the age of 12 are not allowed to visit patients because of the concern of the respiratory illnesses that are going around this time of year. They were excited when he arrived home on Sunday. Caby' presented some with donations from local Terri Draper various St. George businesses. Some of the items donated were two hours of cleaning from Supreme Clean by Alicia, dinner for two from Applebees and baby pictures from My Little Butterfly. The 2001 and 2004 First Babies also shipped some little gift baskets. Were grateful to the local businesses who help us welcome Baby New Year, said Michelle Prisbrey, who is the nurse manager at the hospital in St. George. Their generosity has allowed us to put together a wonderful gift assortment for the family. The Cannons are grateful for the donations they received. We will have to ship the First Baby of 2006 a gift basket, Steven Cannon said. The staff of Dixie Regional Medical Center was excited to welcome Utahs First Baby. We love all babies, said Terri Draper, Dixie Regional Medical Centers public relations director. All babies are special. It was a particular honor to welcome Utahs New Years Baby. Logan has been at home with his family since Sunday.
