The learn that was once was so lacking in depth and size was able to beat the 3A defending state champion Judge Bulldogs. Last year, the Bulldogs beat the boys by 100 points. This year the opposite was true, with the Miners winning by nearly a three digit margin. Head coach Matt Hayes was quick to point out that the Bulldogs are having somewhat of a down year on the boys' side, but a win still shows how far the Miners have come. "We have enough this year. We're much stronger than last year," Hayes said. Hayes said that after a meet earlier this year, ihe Tooele swim team figured out what the Bulldogs boys team had lost since last year. By looking at the total number of points ihey garnered at the State championship last year, they figured that Judge lost 300 points of the 450 points they earned there to graduating seniors. "They still have great swimmers, but not the depth," Hayes said. "I don't think they were loo surprised. The Bulldogs also have a new coach after losing head coach Gail Meakins, who took an assistant coaching job at Cornell University this year. On the girls" side, Judge won easily. The Miners made a strong showing, but were no match for the defending state champion Bulldogs. Much like the Judge boys, the Park City girls lost top swimmers to graduation and other situations. They had so many good swimmers. It was hard to watch," Hayes said. In the loss, the Miners still had top performers. Samantha Case led all girls swimming to a second-place finish in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle. Hayes also highlighted Amanda Margolis, who consistently swims well for the Miners after Wrestling Park City @ Granger Nov. 22 Wednesday Adult Coed Soccer Thursday Adult Basketball Thursday 6 p.m. 6 p.m. 7 p.m. 1 p.m. Basin Recreation Fieldhouse (655-0999) Adult Drop-in Lacrosse Monday 9:30 p.m. Adult Drop-in Coed Soccer Mon. & Wed. 7-9:30 p.m. Adult Open Play Sun. 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Drop-in Batting/Golf Cages Sunday 8 a.m. to Noon Recreation Sports Park City Recreation Services (615-5401) Adult Drop-In Dodge Ball Monday 7:30 p.m. Adult Coed Volleyball South Summit Aquatic & Fitness Center Adult Basketball Thurs. The girls team were unable to overcome the Bulldogs, but the boys team came through with a win due to superior strength and depth. missing the postseason lasl year lo a skii injury. ij ing Hayes said another advantage of the meet was the fact that the Miners were facing just one team. With the swimming schedule dominated by invitationals. the Miners are rarely able to host a calm onc-on-one meet, where they could really compare themselves directly against another team "It was nice. It was almost q quiet," Hayes said. " This time I was looking to see who i need to score points." p With the ability to design more of a game plan, Hayes reconstructed his 200meter medley relay.
