First baseman Jessica Stonehocker Stone-hocker doubled home two runs to tie the game, then had a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Knights to a &5 victory Thursday Thurs-day in the elimination bracket at Cottonwood Complex. With Timpanogos up 5-2 going go-ing into the fifth, Lone Peak started to rally. The Knights scored a run off three singles in the fifth, then started the sixth with two runners on after an error er-ror and a single. That's when Stonehocker ripped her double to tie the game. Timpanogos escaped the inning, though, with a couple of popouts and with center fielder Jen Bilbao gunning down Stonehocker Stone-hocker at the plate. Then in the seventh, after pitcher Tami Peterson reached on an error, Stonehocker came up with a two-out single to score the winning run. "I though we had them on the ropes, up 5-2," said Timpanogos coach Frank Bramall. "I thought if we went overtime, we've been pretty good in overtime, I thought we had a good chance." For the first five innings Timpanogos Tim-panogos was definitely in control con-trol of the game. Hayli Duke started things off with a walk, stole second, then was singled home by Stephanie Stepha-nie Johnson. Chelsey Brown, who also walked, was singled home by Rachel Hecker as the T'Wolves opened with a 2-0 lead. Lone Peak quickly answered, scoring a pair of runs off two hits and an error in the bottom of the first, but Timpanogos bounced back in the second. Jenn Harris got on with a one-out one-out single in the second, stole second and third, then scored on a single by Alii Bramwell Duke also got back on base, again walking, then scored on a single by Brown. The T'Wolves added a run in the fourth after Harris reached on an error then scored on another an-other error, but the momentum changed in the sixth. Tajia Law led off with a walk and Harris singled. The runners were advanced on a sacrifice by Whitney Rode, putting runners on second and third with one out. "I sent some runners. I thought they were there," Bramall Bra-mall said. "I thought both of them were safe." After games the previous day for both teams two for Lone Peak Bramall said he thought there was some lack of energy, especially considering it was a state tournament game. "I was worried about that," he said. "It seemed like both teams were just a bit flat." Even with the momentum of the win, Lone Peak couldn't continue con-tinue its run, getting blown out by Spanish Fork in its second game of the day. I Murray 9, Timpanogos 2: Bad luck and breaks are always costly, but against one of the state's top teams, they can be catastrophic. Despite taking an early lead, nothing went Timpanogos' way as the TWolves fell to Murray 9-2 on May 18 during the state tournament. Timpanogos got off to a quick start after Hayli Duke was hit by a pitch, then went all the way around the bases on wild pitches. Chelsey Brown did about the same thing, walking, stealing second, moving to third on a wild pitch and then scoring on a sacrifice by Rachel Hecker to make it 2-0. In the top of the second, pitcher Alii Bramwell struck out the side, and the T'Wolves were rolling. They put two more runners on in the bottom of the inning on walks, but then Murray Mur-ray switched up its pitchers, replacing Brittany Parker with Whitney Holmes. The change worked, and in the top of the third, the offease sparked to life as well. With two on and two out, Parker's plate performance wasn't being deterred de-terred by her change in field See STATE, Page 12 What We Offer Our Students HIGH - VALUE PROGRAMS teach a multitude of skills so that you will have more job opportunities and earn a higher salary. Did a great job," Nelson said. "Hasn't pitched in weeks, but has diligently put in his time in the bullpen to be ready for that kind of a position. "He came in and threw strikes and threw strikes because be-cause of the confidence that he has. He was ready to do it," Nelson said. Norton said, "1 was ready. I was expecting to have to come in and help out, so I was ready. 1 just pitched as much as I could. I just did what I could." While the Knights did get that run in the fifth, Timpanogos Timpano-gos picked up two more in the fourth when Tyson Ford hit a two-run homer, then added another in the sixth when Norton led off with a single and Alex Lyons, pinch hitting, would drive the run home. Norton did get into some trouble in the sixth when the Knights got a two-out rally going go-ing with a walk and back-to-back singles, but needing only four outs, it was something Ford could take care of, even after having pitched the day before. Lone Peak got three runs out of the sixth inning to close the gap to 7-5, but a strikeout and a pair of groundnuts by Ford in the seventh sealed the game. "Obviously we've rode his arm for a while, for two years. For him to come in and finish that like he did, it just puts a nice finishing touch to a great career," Nelson said. "With a home run to hxxrt." Despite getting plenty of hits 14 Lone Peak just couldn't find a way to get runners home, stranding 13. Meanwhile, Timpanogos scored its seven runs on only eight hits, but also drew eight walks, which led to a few of those runs. "We just were waiting for our pitches, and when we got them, we hit them," Norton said. For its quarterfinal and semifinal games, there weren't going to be any surprises for Timpanogos. The T'Wolves scored early, picking up runs in the first and third, but the Knights matched that, scoring one each in the third and fourth to knot the game at 2-2. Finally in the sixth, Timpanogos Tim-panogos picked up another pair, which proved to Ix; the winning runs of the game. The win advanced the T'Wolves to the finals, while Ijone Peak dropped into the elimination elimina-tion bracket to face Pleasant Grove. There the Knights earned a 12-2 victory to move back to the title game.
