Show 6 Discover Dinosaarland July 27, 1988 Places to see and things to do in Dinosaurland DINOSAUR GARDENS AND MUSEUM The newly constructed Dinosaur Gardens is considered to be one of the finest exhibits of its kind in the world. The Gardens are designed to appear exactly as the area did in the age of the dinosaurs, and are "inhabited" by 14 life-size prehistoric creatures. Well-known sculptor Elbert Porter spent almost 15 years creating the incredibly lifelike dinosaurs. The million-dollar exhibit features a small lake, swamp area and a rock outcropping with bridge and waterfall. Visit Dinosaur Gardens daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the summer months and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the rest of the year. On the ground floor, a mural and miniaturized display shows the visitors the prehistory of the region and its long-since extinct inhabitants. On the upper deck, you are eye level with Brontosaurus and friends. These petrified skeletal remains re-mains are better than half exposed in the 200-foot face of the quarry. There are partial skeletons visible for at least nine dinosaur species that lived and died here and were preserved in the then soft, sandy river banks. A shuttle bus takes visitors from the parking area to the quarry site. While at the quarry, visit Split Mountain and Green River Cam pgrounds, 3 miles east of the visitor center.
