Show Thursday, December 5. 1991 The Daily Utah Chronicle Coyotes need to be protected, not hunted Editor On Sunday. Nov. 17, the Salt Lake Tribune published on its front page an article titled "U.S.-Pai- d Coyote Hunters Say Critics Don't See Sheep. Livestock Blood." The article was about the atrocities visited on wildlife by the federal Animal Damage Control Program (ADC) at the behest of western welfare ranchers. A Tribune reporter ADC field agent Mr. accompanied McNulty on his ghastly rounds, shooting a photo of a strangled coyote dangling from a snare and listening to revelry about murderous deeds perpetrated against "stinkin coyotes." I have the following short response and challenge caring individuals to keep this issue on the front burner, learn more about ADC activites and do something to stop the federal war on wildlife! Mr. McNulty, in a flurry of proclaims himself "Coyote Dundee" and man's "best friend." Most people's immediate response should be that Mr. McNulty is a murdering wretch and the ADC is an affront to human moral decency, ecological sanity, economic responsibility and representative As the article democracy! demonstrated, the ADC and ranchers grossly exaggerate the number of Class will losses on a regular basis. Yet, even with lies and contrivances, the facts show that Utah spends well over Si. 5 million annually to sponsor murderous escapades by the likes of Mr. McNulty, while the greatest estimated losses due to predation rarely top $1 million. After all, it's paid for by YOU. And it's done on your public lands and ue public deserts altogether. Mr. McNulty says people who are outraged by the heinous activities of the ADC don't appreciate the "emotional" effect of seeing a dead sheep. On the contrary, the emotional attachment between such men and sheep is legendary. What is incredible to anyone who learns of what the ADC is and what it does is the fact that it could ever have begun, and that it could be allowed by the American public to continue. While some may have special relationships with sheep, most caring people share an attachment to suffering wildlife Five invited to pick up applications for the Elections Committee AAA AA rights of all living things. grazing fees absorb the costs of losses. During these years, doctors learn beyond just biology and anatomy; they receive hands on experience for their future career. The ten-yetraining process for a doctor is similar to the training process for any other field. But with medical students, the training must be more structured and intense because in the end result, they will deal with the delicate human body. Also, graduating with a medical degree doesn't mean you deserve more money than others who have received the proper education and training for any other career.
