Well, whatever, Im pretty sure I know which category I belong to. I am writing this column on a computer. My teacher, who is my son, and has about as much patience as someone else I know, says he could teach a monkey easier than he could me, but anyway, its time to get this in, and my typewriter isnt working, so its use this handwrite it, and I know they could never read that so here goes: computer or else--When Richard Kay toured our Museum a few weeks ago, he suggested that we try to get it on the Historical Register and called later from his home in Washington state to give us information on how to do it A short time later, we got a call from the State Historical Society on the same subject, so were going to check it out, and if it offers us any advantages, well go for it. One of our most loyal supporters, Cora Olsen, told me last night that she and Margaret Carter had found some class pictures taken in front of the building, and she is having them enlarged and put in frames. Theyll be great for the school room, and we love and appreciate both of them. Utah Valley Artists' Association The Artists Association has many promising and expanding things happening now and in the coming year. The new president, board members, advisory board and consultants are: president, Jean "JA" Thorpe; Glenda Lewis, Nola DeJong Sullivan, Ree Roper, Nor-lyeCollins, Connie Rae Hinckley, Brian Bates and Les Granger. Art consultants are Verne Thorpe, Stan Johnson, and Dennis Dunn. The purpose of the Association is to promote the involvement and learning of all artists. We are encouraging the teaching to come from the professionals. The amateurs learn from seeing and doing. This years first theme is "Focus on Youth." Starting with the young is where these talents are developed. During the holidays at the University Mall in Gallery 28, KZOL Radio has invited the Art Association to sponsor a Workshop area for young artists where they can learn many skills and techniques of art with the use of many mediums. There are puppet shows and other art demonstrations. The opening was held on December 1 . Monthly forums are held on the last Wednesday of each month. Come and meet our new members and enjoy learning from our professional people who are there to teach us. We encourage you to join us and become members. Membership dues are $15 for 1990. It will benefit you many times over. Our standards are high and complimented by all who are involved. Our annual Christmas Party will be an open house at our new Springville Art Center, just east of the Springville Ait Museum. There will be an art sales for all artists and guild members. You need to bring your paintings in by December 8. This includes all media. The party is on December 9 from 11:00 a.m. until the dinner dance that night at 7:00. Bring potluck to the 7:00 party; dancing is until midnight. Address is 2nd East 4th South, Springville. It is the same day as the Christmas Home Tour, sponsored by the Springville Art Museum. It was presented to several different grades during the week and on Thursday evening, December 7, to the parents. Each student in her class participates in either singing, poetry, or the skit. Each year it becomes more exciting for the older children to see their particular part presented by this years students. A special thanks to Lisa Howard, Leaders of the Utah Valley Artists Association hope to promote greater involvement with the arts among youth. Santaquin Elementary Students Decorate Tree At Wasatch Bank Students from the Santaquin Elementary School 3rd grades decorated the Christmas tree at Wasatch Bank on Wednesday and earned $50 for doing so. WasatchBank donated money for the cost of the deocrations, which the kids made themselves, and gave an additional $50 to the kids for their deocrating services. The money will come in handy for some special school activities or possibly a field trip. The kids also entertained the Wasatch staff with lively renditions of "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nos- ed Reindeer." It was a good opportunity for the kids to contribute something to the community and earn money for their activities as well as have some good, Christmas fun. old-fashion- ed U.S. SAVINGS BONDS THE GREAT AMERICAN INVESTMENT |
