They're looking forward to training in the new six-lane, 25-meter pool at the Racquet Club, and to racing in larger, more competitive com-petitive U.S. Swimming meets this season. . ; , ; . ; The new pool, which is scheduled to open this week, will make training easier for the team. Six lanes should reduce crowding. ' And swimming the standard 25-meter length will help the team learn the timing in- ; volved in racing. ; N The Park City Swim Team has ; also joined U.S. i Swimming this , year. As a member, the team will be eligible to compete in large, competitive com-petitive meets sanctioned by the parent organization. Coach Larry Jackson says Park City will face tougher opponents this season. "Because of the small pool we've been swimming against a lot of park teams and we haven't had that much competition. With the new pool, and being in U.S. Swimming, it'll be a lot more tough competition." Top masters swimmer Gail McBride leads a strong coaching staff for Park City. McBride's staff includes Kerron Cozzins, a three-time three-time All-America swimmer at U.C.L.A.; Jackson, a former competitive com-petitive swimmer; and Louisa Archuleta, Ar-chuleta, who spent six years coaching the Cottonwood Heights Swim Club. The swimmers like their coaches. "They're funny and sometimes they can be a little strict.. .but not that much," said Ashley Eberlein, 9. A youth doesn't need to know all the strokes to join the team. McBride says that swimmers learn stroke techniques as "part of the program."
