Utah Bankers Association teaches banking The responsibility for earning, budgeting and spending money starts at a young age. According to the Utah Bankers Association, a one-week banking course taught by bankers gives students a "hands-on" banking experience in setting financial goals, planning a budget, writing and recording recor-ding checks, reconciling a bank statement state-ment and learning the do's and don'ts of credit. During the week of March 7th, Lance Garner, Vice President of Key Bank of Utah, will teach the course to the students in the Office Procedures class at Orem High School. "Not only on-ly does this course help our young people understand the role of banks in their personal and future business life, it underscores the need for good financial planning," Garner said. The students at Orem High School are among more than 7,000 Utah students in over 90 schools throughout the state who will participate par-ticipate in the class this year. Each class is taught by a proefessional banker. The curriculum is approved and endorsed by the Utah State Office of Education. According to Lawrence W. Alder, exective vice president of the Utah Bankers Association, "We assume this is the first practical experience these students have had with banking, so we try to provide a very realistic program," Mr. Alder said.
