Mountain View's team, still waiting for their first region win, is optimistic that it will come f.oon. The Bruins fell to Brighton and Alta in last week's action. ' 'Brighton's team is the best team in the region," explained Bruin coach Dave Wooley, "We did everything we could to stay with them." After a close beginning, Brighton blew the game open in the second half to put the contest out of reach. Ben Cahoon booted ,he only Mountain View goal. Against Alta the Bruins drew first blood, and after Alta tied the score at halftime, 1-1, Mountain View was first in the net for the second half, claiming claim-ing a 2-1 lead. From there, however, the Hawks broke the game open with three more goals, dropping the Bruins 4-2. "We've lost some heart-breakers," heart-breakers," admitted Wooley, "but our team is really committed even in the face of a couple losses." According Accor-ding to Wooley, the Bruins have the Orem's offense keeps the ball in play in region competition against Hillcrest last week. Thorn booted two of Orem's four goals in the 4-3 win against Alta and scored one in Orem's 3-2 win against Hillcrest. Orem ran up an early 3-0 lead against West Jordan Thursday, then held on for the 4-3 win. The Orem offense of-fense was still strong in the second half, but their shots just didn't go into in-to the net. The Jaguar goal keeper kept Alta in the game with some outstanding saves. Thomas Skousen scored two goals for the Tigers and Brandon Carlyle booted another. In Tuesday's action against Hillcrest, Orem used Eric Steven's overtime goal to record a 3-2 win. The game-winning goal was scored three minutes into the overtime period. The two Tiger goals scored in regulation were scored by Thomas Skousen and Greg Larsen. Both Orem and Mountain View continue their region schedule this week. Orem hosted American Fork Tuesday and will face Bingham on the road Thursday. The Bruins hosted West Jordan Tuesday, and will be at American Fork on Thursday. Fireside to honor returned missionaries on college BB A fireside honoring returned missionaries mis-sionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who played collegiate basketball for Utah's four-year institutions this past season is scheduled for Sunday, April 10, 1988 at 6 p.m. in the Tabernacle, according to Joseph F. Home, director direc-tor of historic Temple Square. Elder L. Tom Perry, a member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, will be the featured speaker at the event, Home said, adding that former University of Utah all-American Ar-nie Ar-nie Ferrin and former Brigham Young University Basketball Coach Stan Watts will also be guests of honor at the fireside. Both Ferrin and Watts were recently inducted inlo the Western Athletic Conference Court of Honors. , Other guests will include the coaches and cheerleaders of the five schools: Southern Utah State College, Utah State University, University of Utah, Weber State College, and Brigham Young University. Softball official certification During the last few years, the direction of slow pitch Softball in the local area has been changing. Many leagues are switching over to USSSA rules and most large tournaments are sanctioned with the same association. This year, the Utah Summer Games adopted USSSA rules for its play. One of the drawback of the USSSA has been a lack of locally certified cer-tified officials. To help remedy this situation, the Orem Recreation Department in cooperation with Pro- Fitness Center begins water aerobics Orem Fitness Center is offering a classes in water aerobics both morning morn-ing and evening. Water aerobics is a program that is quickly becoming a leader in the fitness field. The parkway committee presented plans to landscape the land just west of the Murdock Diversion Dam on the Provo River. A tentative design proposal using native plants and vegetation was submitted to the Transportation Commission for review. The Mormon Symphony and Chorus, under the direction of Robert C. Bowden, will provide music for the occasion.
