Jan6SP State income tax forms on their way The state income tax forms for 1967 are on their way to Utah taxpayers tax-payers from the Utah State Tax Commission. Com-mission. Approximately 583,000 forms will be mailed during the next week. Utah taxpayers will note several changes on the new income tax forms, including increases in the personal exemption and standard deducation. Taxpayers will also save some trips to the copy machine because Utah residents will not longer need to attach at-tach a copy of their federal return to the state return. Utahns will also note that their federal income tax is no longer deductible on the state return. The State Tax Commission has the following reminders to Utah taxpayers: 1. File early. If you have a refund coming, the earlier you file the earlier you will receive your money. In 1987, the State Tax Commission processed 590,000 individual income tax forms. Approximately one-half of these were filed between April 10 and April 15. 2. Use the envelope and mailing label supplied with the tax form. The envelope is encoded to be scanned by machine and can also be opened and sorted mechanically. If you have a refund re-fund coming, mark the designated box on the face of the envelope. These returns are processed first. 3. Remember to calculate the use tax due on out-of-state purchases. If you purchased any taxable items or services on which sales tax was not collected or was collected at a lower rate than the sales tax rate for your locality, you are liable for use tax on the purchase price. This includes catalog purchases from out-of-state vendors. Instructions on how to calculate the use tax due are found in the tax booklet. 4. Double check your return to avoid the most common errors : incorrect incor-rect tax calculated from the tax rate schedules, incorrect itemized deductions deduc-tions transferred from the federal, return, and math errors. 5. Remember to sign your return. If filing jointly, the spouse's signature is also required. The Tax Commission prints over one million tax booklets as well as long and short forms. Extra copies of the tax forms and booklets are available at post offices, libraries and the Tax Commission offices in Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo. State tax forms, as well as taxpayer tax-payer information and assistance, are available by calling the Tax Commission's Commis-sion's toll-free number, 1-800462-4335, or in Salt Lake County, 530-4848. Annual BYU faculty show includes computer art Computer art is appearing for the first time at Brigham Young University Univer-sity this year as part of Brigham Young University's annual Studio Faculty Exhibit. A total of 40 works created from a variety of media comprise the show which opened recently in the B.F. Larsen Gallery in the Harris Fine Arts Center. Two Art Department faculty members, Peter Myer and James Christensen, are showing art created completely by computer. "The department has only been able to purchase sophisticated computer com-puter art hardware and software during dur-ing the past year and we have inaugurated in-augurated art studies in that area," explains Timothy Rose, gallery director. In three-dimensional art, the show includes sculpture by Brent Gehring and Von Allen, as well as ceramic vessels by Joseph Bennion. Among the two-dimensional media represented are lithography, woodcut and intaglio prints, in addition to paintings pain-tings and drawings in a diversity of styles. "For the university's art studio faculty, this show is not only a yearly year-ly demonstration of their professional production, but also a sharing with the community of some varied and remarkable talent," says Rose. "These faculty artists have participated par-ticipated in several important national na-tional exhibits during the past year, have conducted workshops for other universities, and have produced major ma-jor church and government commissions." The show is available for viewing daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Feb. 16.
