bluff to st george arrived here monday it was a little maxwell car owned and driven by dolphi andrus of bluff a former washington boy who by the way is some booster for the monumental highway accompanying andrus was dr W H hopkins of salt lake city who la trying to work up m in he loutfi and made the trip to prove that what was consid ered impossible was not so what our little maxwell car has done others can do said dr hopkins the editor spent a couple of hours very pleasantly with dr hopkns monday night healing him tell of the wonders and majestic beauty of a great part of the propos ed highway and looking over maps the doctor has traveled extensively in many parts of the world having visited most of the camou scenic portions and is a very talker from dr hopkins we learned that he was greatly impressed with the possibility of constructing a road from colorado through bluff when in that section last fall with H stanley heinach Hein chief of the field division of the federal land office at salt lake city dr hopkins realized that if a car could be gotten over the proposed route and alie fact made known it would not be difficult to get funds to put the road in shape mr heinach Hein dr hopkind and the photographer accompany ing them 0 C hanen engaged zele johnson at bluff to take them to the natural bridges with pack animals the party returned to bluff and engaged dolph andrca to take them in his maxwell to goodridge the oil country the monumental valley and on they reilly wih ed to ascertain if it was a fact aa recorded that a road across to lees ferry and on to bt george via the grind canyon md kalib was impossible we found A kind of road said dr hopkind Hop kina but had to return on account of mr heinach being unable to ebare the time arrangements were made with the federal truck company to send a car down this spring and be the first to make the gnp but the company wrote that owing to the entry of this country into war they would be unable to do so then dolph andrus said my maxwell can do it and it did the monumental route the proposed scenic route from the east to california would pass through considerable sid erable government land in colorado arizona and utah passing through the mesa verde park in western colorado the indian reservation monument valley in san juan co this slate the kia bab national forest and the indian reserve realizing this mr heinach said to dr hopkins if you get a road I 1 can go to tho U S government and claim it as it goes mostly through government land we can secure en appropriation to improve it I 1 can get bonev easily to improve a road but ive never been able to get a cent to make a new road i j the roid as outlined by dr hop kin after leaving mesa verde park goes to bluff where a side trip occupying five or six days may be taken with pack animals to the most famous natural bridges in the world from bluff the road follows the tf san juan river to good ridge where a good bridge crosses the river thence to monument valley a land of scenery which the dr declares so fir surpass the garden of the gods that there is really no comparison thence to kabei to an indian trading post kept by a man named prall A side trip may be made from hereto the rainbow bridge national monument from kamento a highway leads south to flagstaff from the road goes to tuba ft here there is a very interesting hopi indian village thence north to lees ferry over a fair road with the beautiful echo cliffs always alongside it at lees ferry the ferryman terry johnson has a good ferryboat capable of taking two autos at one time acro the river from feriv the road goes through the beautiful forest to fredonia and kanab thence with the pink cliffs on its right hand the road goes to hurricane and st I 1 george where connection may be made with the arrowhead trail to los while in the kia bab forest the grand canavon may be visited and side trips may be made to zion canyon i deap the most sublime scenic attraction in the world either from hurricane or st george the distance being only a few miles from either place s the road has been logged and a copy of the log may be obtained either from dolph andrus bluff utah or dr W H hopkns salt lake city at cost dr hopkns was a guest of the f arrowhead hotel while here and left tuesday with dolph zion canyon to sum up dr hopkns talk lie claims it is the most attractive loute in the world passing through or close to numerous al wonders and incomparable scenes including the wonderful mesa verde park ancient cliff dwellings the greatest natural bridges in
