Show PICTURES BEING TAKEN IN ZION NATIONAL PARK Zion National Park, Utah, Sept. 16. The great walls of Zion Canyon will form the scenic background for the motion picture production of "Ro-mona," "Ro-mona," Helen Hunt Jackson's enduring endur-ing novel of early Spanish and Indian life in Southern California, it was announced an-nounced by E. T. Scoyen, Superintendent Superinten-dent of Zion National Park, today. A company of 55 people entered the park yesterday and are now busily engaged en-gaged in filming the 'Story. A complete com-plete duplicate of the old Spanish hacienda, ha-cienda, which was the home of Ro-mona, Ro-mona, has been built in the canyon and the majority of the picture will be taken at this point. The "set" is located so that some of finest of the Zion views can be brought into the background of action in the picture. According to those in charge of the picture, Zion Canyon is an ideal location loca-tion for their purpose. The walls of the canyon itself rise 3,000 feet above the valley floor, and in places side canyons have cut them into massive mountain peaks. The half mile wide bottom of the canyon is covered with a very heavy growth of vegetation, including in-cluding beautiful wild flowers of many varieties; this enables photographers to secure many beautiful artistic effects. ef-fects. According to Mr. Scoyen, this is the third company to use Zion as a background back-ground for a motion picture story this season. |
