Show A aplan fP plan lan to open zion park next summer h initial steps tor for preparing national park zion canyon tor for tourists next summer were begun at a conference yesterday between the commercial club committee and stephen T mather director of national parks before mr air mather left for washington D C yesterday noon lafayette hanchett chairman of the committee in the absence ot of lester D freed president of the commercial club presided matters of importance under dis buslon at the conference were ere adequate hotel accommodations at cedar city to handle the large influx of tourists who will be entering zion f national park and the construction of a railroad from lund to the parks entrance at cedar city this proposed road will be a branch from the main line of the salt lake route and Is to care tor for tourists who do not visit the park by automobile hotel Is ceded needed in park W W wyle one of the committee members whose house in zion national park Is already established vas as one of the interested leaders of the discussion at the conference the great problem which needs immediate attention Is 13 the housing problem tor for visitors to the park it was pointed out the present hotel accommodations at panguitch Pan gultch and cedar city were found to be entirely inadequate and plans are under consideration tor for the erection ot of a large hotel at Cedar City R L jones of cedar city reported on the plans for or the new hotel while commendable it was decided that the proposed building Is not sufficient for the immediate needs of cedar city one ot of the most tar far proposals was for an improvement cor horation po ration able to raise a large sum ot of money to carry out the necessary improvements to handle the expected crowds next spring when the national park rush commences inen ces nothing definite was done on this proposal although it la to said to be considered favorably by mr air e wather and various members of the committee who conferred with him z yesterday railroad must bo be built A railroad from lund on the salt lake route to cedar city to handle tourists who do not travel by automobile is held to be one ono of the necessary improvements it if large numbers ot of tourists are to be bandied efficiently it Is also possible that the line will be extended to the north rim of the grand canyon of the colorado river whatever is done will have f to reflect the spirit with which utah will enter the national park field in competition with existing facilities tor for handling tourist travel mr air w freed said last night salt lake herald K ft |
