lake city would bo be made a second nry ary national capitol lr 1 should pass a bil recently introduced by senator king of utah proposing to establish a branch of the interior department dop dep artent in the utah metropolis and tranee transferring erring to the salt gait lake branch all present bureaus of the interior department dealing with western matters Spec specifically lacally the bill would transfer from f rom washington Washing toa to salt lake the tho offices of the tho commissioner of the general land office geological surrey survey bureau of mines reclamation service ser vico commissioner of indian affairs and national park service together with their records 1 maps etc all to bo be la in charge of nn an assistant secretary of the in gerior appointed for this purpose the bill in addition would transfer the forest service from the department of at agriculture to the interior department and the forest service then would bo be moved bodily to salt lake the bill appropriates 1 I to erect a suitable building at salt lake city to house these bureaus of the tho interior departs department ent the act to become fully full v effective and the transfer concluded by january lo 10 1 1826 1925 mining claims another bill of great importance to utah and all other western states introduced by senator king would cede all unreserved public lands to the several states when ever the states by legislative act accept the grant this bill would not affect lands to which settlers have initiated rights under existing ti sting jand land laws nor would it affect any public lands withdrawn for any public purpose but it would when pending entries and claims are disposed of wipe the several government gover nent land offices out of existence to end the long delays that usually attend the issuance of patents for mining claims senator king proposes to amend sections 2325 and 2326 of the revised statutes placing upon tho the government and contestants the burden of
