Show Traveling Through The Parks Zion National Park, Utah, October 10 With a combined total of 55,380 visitors registered from every state in the union, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Ha-waii, Alaska, Canal Zone, Philippine Islands and 22 foreign countries, all records for travel to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks were broken during the season just passed, according accord-ing to E. T. Scoyen, Parks Superintendent, Superin-tendent, in an announcement today. The tcJtal as divided between the two Southern Utah parks gave 33,303 to Zion and 21,997 to Bryce Canyon. Th.".-larger Th.".-larger total at the former is due' entirely en-tirely to the year around season, as Bryce can only be reached about seven sev-en months during the year. The season's figure for Zion is an increase over last year of 3,367 or 11 ner cent. Comparative figures for Bryce are not available. The increase in-crease was not up to pre-season expectations ex-pectations due almost entirely to adverse ad-verse weather conditions along northern north-ern trans-continental routes last winter, win-ter, and to the unusual and adverse thunderstorms which were almost a daily occurance in Southern Utah, the last summer. The resulting floods did great damage to highways, and practically stopped travel at times. Study of the travel with reference to the point of origin shows that Utah leads all states in the number of visi-with visi-with 13,810 and California was second with 9,227. A total of 6,365 cams from states east of the Mississippi, and 176 were registered from 22 foreign countries. - The long distance travel record to reach the park was jointly held by the three visitors from New Zealand. Analysis of the records also show that of the total at Zion, 28,201 people entered in 8,612 automobiles, 5.151 by stage (rain, and 31 by miscellaneous means. The respective figures at Bryce were: 17,211, 5,223, 4,784, and 2. Mr. Scoyen also stated that records show that during the six seasons since 1923, travel to the Southern Utah Parks ha-; increased over 400 per cent. |
