and Balls I One of the largest l events of the week I was the ball givenby buttery A N G I U atthc armory Monday eveningJrho Governor and 7 staff attended Fort Douglas officers were there and the militia boys were resplendent in their ncxv uniforms regulation for officers and West Point cadet cut for the privates pri-vates The uniforms are very handsome i hand-some and attracted great attention The I clubroqrrjs at the armory were prettily I I arranged for receiving the guests while the dancingroom Itself was splendidly I decorated in all tIle trappings of war Refreshments were served at one tent In the northeast corner and on the stand was the Christensen orchestra I Gov and Mrs Wells led the grand march and then followed regular dancing danc-ing which lasted until past of the week was the reception given by Mrs S E Bransford and her daughter Mrs Jay Tarvln Harris Har-ris at the home of the former 521 East First South street on Wednesday afternoon af-ternoon several hundred invitations having been issued The Christensen orchestra furnished the music and the decorations by Huddart were elegant inC in-C lY detail The reception hall was In pink and green pink chrysanthemums and carnations being used the balustrade balus-trade was heavily festooned with smilax smi-lax while on the first landing of the staircase a bank of palms made an effective ef-fective background Here Mrs Perry S Heath presided over the punch bowl In the drawingroom where Mrs Bransford and Mrs Harris received their guests pink and white roses carnations car-nations and chrysanthemums were used profusion while the library was entirely en-tirely in white with trimmings of smilax smi-lax The diningroom was charmingly decorated pink white and green being the color scheme Large quantities of roses and carnations were used with maidenhair ferns and plumosa The table ta-ble was literally covered with hundreds of pink roses while at either end were tall candelabra and the pink candles were shaded with pink 1 Receiving in the diningroom were Mesdames Beat tIe J S Bransford Roberts and Benedict Bene-dict Mrs Edwin F Holmes poured coffee and assisting in serving were Misses Mamie Ivors Lute McMillan Bertha Carter and Leta McMillan A a s Something new for Salt Lake society was the afternoon reception on Friday at the Alta club given by Mrs James W Nelll Mrs Robert JXoleman Miss Coleman and Miss Neill1 All In all It was one of the prettiest events of the I season and a very large number had been invited The parlor and dlning rodm were beautifully decorated the parlor having many chrysanthemums prettily arranged The diningroom was transformed Into a Japanese tea I garden the idea being curried out with I Japanese umbrellas shading the electric globes lighted lanterns arranged around the walls Japanese ware on the tables sand screens hove and there Japanese Ja-panese prints on the wall and above all many chrysanthemums which Is ono on-o the flowers of the Mikados realm It was all very original l and pretty Mrs J C Royle poured coffee Mrs George K Fischer Mrs C R Poarsall and Mrs Kenneth C Kerr served punch Others assisting were Miss delightful music S i The second ball of the Red Black of the high school was held Friday evening even-ing at Cluistensens and was a largely attended and most successful event in every way The
