presidents of the I Mormon church and Frank J Cannon In tending to citner convey tne idea that the presidents were Republicans or that Frank was worthy of being associated with them This latter being absurd we will undertake under-take to disprove the former by quoting from the rocords MOTTO OF THE CHURCH OF JSSTJS CimiST OF LATTEKBAT SAINTS In 1S3S a document was issued at Far West and transmitted by the Prophet Joseph Smith to the Kir and church for its guidance Aristocracy and toryism were denounced and the following motto was emphasized em-phasized Exalt the standard of Democracy Democ-racy Down with that of priestcraft and lot tho people say amen I It is signed by Joseph Smith jr Thomss B March Brigham Young David W Patton Pat-ton Samuel H Smith George W Hinckle John Carrill a Whig who sought his life In his own words tho prophet relates Having an opportunity or speaking to General Wilson I inquired of him tho cause why I was thus > treated I told him I was not sensible
