Show FUNERAL httEVlGES Tabernacle Ceremonies in Memory of Deceased De-ceased Mlsislouarieg Particulars of D 5 R Cannons Death S The ceremonies over the remains of Elder David H Cannon and in memory of other missionaries who had died in the service of tho Mormon church held In the tabernacle on Sunday last were very impressive im-pressive The vast building was crowded The bolr rendered appropriate music ApostiaF M Lyman offered the opening prn erA er-A list of the elders who had died while on missions or returning therefrom was read by the church historian A Jotter written by David H Cannon to his sister six days before his death was read by Apostle Heber J Grant President Woodruff delivered a brief but feeling address on life death and the resurrection 4 President Joseph F Smith followed on the same topics Apostle F D Richards read a discourse delivered by Joseph F Smith on the death of Lorenzo U Barnes the first missionary S of the church who died abroad Elder Richards also spoke on the subject of the occasion Apostle John Henry Smith pronounced the beneaiction The remains of the departed elder were incased in a handsome casket in which they were brought from Germany and interred in the cemetery President Joseph Jo-seph F Smith offering the dedicatory prayer From the JfiHemfal Star of Oct 3 w learn that advices from Elder Hugh Cannon stated that being summoned telegraph he found his brother Du i H at Sorau fiftysix miles sratl oust of Frankfort on the 14th of October He was suffering from some throat trouble S At first he was not able to spetJc but recovered re-covered after being administered to and said be desired to live and finish his mission mis-sion but was willing to die He passed away quietly on the morning of Oct 17 heart failure being the cause President Scharrer of the Swiss and Gorman Gor-man mission reports that Elder Cannon had been appointed to taka charge of the Berlin branch but desired to go into the field without puree or scrip He gave all LIs surplus clothing to the poor his money to tho president of the district to use as he deemed best and went forth as he desired In a remarkably short time ha mastered tile language and Held a number of meetings meet-ings within two months after his appointment appoint-ment He discoursed with men of learning happed several converts and made many friends When taken sick he was carefully 1 care-fully watched over and every attention paid to him He was exemplary in all hisS his-S ways and died univeraallybelovod The sympathies of all hearts are expended ex-pended to his bereaved lather and the amily |
