Show OUR COUKESPONDENTS. OVH1TOX, Warren Cox of St. George has been here on business. Bishop Jones is under the weather with a severe cold. We have another call from "Box B," but don't know who will be the favored ones jet. Harry Church of St. Joseph, who has been teaching; school at Pioche, is expected ex-pected home on the Stage Sunday. Joseph Commerilh has been here to buy stock, but his figures were so low that none made contracts with him. M. W. Gibson and wife have gone to Milford for their son, who has been at the Provo Academy for the past six months. Mrs. Susan Johnson is ill with pneumonia pneu-monia is somewhat better. Mrs. D. O. Huntsman of Cane Springs is attending attend-ing her. Harvesting well under way. The past week has been very warm and dry, the themometer showed 99 degrees in the shade for two or three days last week. An election for school trustees was held last Monday. William R. Prince was chosen for four years, and D. J. Cox and J. J. Jones, Jr., were chosen for two years each. Fruit and other crops are good. Mr. Commerilh expects to buy stock here before long. Joseph Huntsman and J. T. Dodson are up here working their mine. The Holt Brothers have leased or bought a sawmill at Deer Lodge and Bp. F. O. Holt is out helping run the mill. The Santa Clara stock passed thru here this morning, looking well, on their way to Grassy Flat, their summer sum-mer range. Indian School Agent Dickson and Miss Work camped here last night and went on to see the Bigelow farms this morning with the intention of buying the place for an Indian School if suitable. suit-able. The Agent brings word from the Supt. of the Colorado school that Miss Work is doing a good work with the Indians, as those sent from this reservation to attend school were the most genteel and polite of any attending attend-ing that institution. BUNKERVJLLE. j William Abbott has left with a party of travelers and will drive them as far as Chloride. Daniel D. McArthur, who has been visiting her daughter here, left last week for her home at St. George. The Primary celebrated the birthday birth-day of Pres. Brigham Young by giving a children's dance and entertainment in the evening. Robert Bunker returned today, the 3rdinst., from St. George where he 1 has been to take the cooks of the Key West mine, Misses Grat ana Aaams. Supt. H. V. Maloy and Secy. T. C. Bradley, of the Key West mine have gone to Salt Lake. A. M. Thompson, who has been discharged as foreman, of the mine has also gone to Salt Lake. PINE VALLEY. John A. Gardner has gone to Lund j on business. The walls of the Pine Valley Co-op are almost finished. It is a tine brick building. Born-A daughter to the wife of Frank Snow on the 20th ult. Brigham Young's birthday, June 1st, and a very enjoyable time was had. H H Harder of St. George stayed at the residence of James G. Moses Gibson and wife and Miss Emily Beebe are up from Bunkerville to spend a few davs with relatives. Mr. Gibson will go to Milford before returning return-ing home to meet his son Robert from the B. Y. A , Provo. William Wright will accompany Mr. Gibson to Milford to take the train for Deseret. Mrs. Deseret Perkins of Salt Lake City left for her home a few days ago accompanied by her father and mother who have been here about three years. TOQUEKVILLE. Our farmers are busy haying. Weather is very warm for this time of year. Miss Lois Hunt of St. George has been visiting here. Born to the wife of Isaac Duffin an eleven-pound boy. All concerned doing do-ing nicely. The committee are making preparations prepar-ations for the old people's party which will be held Friday, June 1st. Miss Ella Batty has returned from Beaver, where she has been attending the Beaver Branch Academy. IT. S. census numerator Walter D. Slack left for St. George on the 31st ult. where he will begin his labors. SPKIN'tiDALE, Elder George Spilsbury, our Sunday school missionary, was with us last Sunday. Elders Reusch and Spilsbury were the speakers at the afternoon meeting. Elder William Ruesch returned home last Saturday from a mission in the Southern States, where he has been laboring for the past twenty months. A reception was given him Monday night and a good time was enjoyed by all present. Errors in the Rockville correspondence correspond-ence in the last issue of The News showed the Lemmon births to have been both girls whereas it should have been a boy and a girl; the child of James Lemmon was shown as born on the 22nd whereas both children were born on the 21st; again the child of David Lemmon was born on the 21st, not on the 12th. We are sorry to say that the boy died on the 26th ult., making mak-ing the fifth child in succession in this family to die in infancy; I stated in my last that they had buried the last three, but it should have been they have buried the last four. A typographical error in Rockville correspondence last issue made the types read that the child of David Lemmon was born on the 12th; our correspondent stated that it was born on the 21st Editor News. UK4INE. (EAGLE VALLEY,) Robert Francis leaves on the 31st ult. for Cape Nome, Alaska. D. McDonald of DeLamar has been here the last couple of days on business. Elders Nepbi Wadsworth and Hyrum Empy from Panaca were here as missionaries mis-sionaries last Sunday, Several of our young people went to Pioche to attend the ball on the 24th ult. and had an enjoyable time, Isaac Mathis has purchased a nice place at White River, and intends building there and moving his family to make it their future home. William Hammond intends leaving the end of the week to meet his sister, Nellie, who has been attending school at Cedar city the last three months. |
