Show POLITICAL mm the day of numerous conventions OX ON AT indianapolis will again carry off the hie honors women win at cleveland indianapolis may 7 special hall was not half large enough this morning to contain the crowds that flocked to it for the purpose of taking part in or of witnessing the proceedings of the republican state contention there thera have bare been many memorable gatherings of the party in this noted structure during the past decade but none of them not even the oue ne that first named general harrison for the presidency in ill 1888 were attended with the interest and excitement of the present roundup round up of the hoosier IIo osier representatives of the grand old party despite the boom to mckinley stock given by the action of the vermont and illinois and california conventions the opposition to instructions is still solid compact and determined and will fight the issue to the last ditch chairman gowdy however is confident that it will be the story of the illinois convention repeated with emphasis that the delegates at large will be instructed for mckinley and that tho the latter will be at st louis on the first lb shallot allot get the vote of all but three of the entire indiana delegation the argument is being used with the uninstructed delegates this morning that while mckinless McKin leys nomination is already as good as assured and the votes of the four delegates delegated at large are not essential to his success yet it would be sound practical politics for indiana to get into the band wagon and thus gain the prestige that would be lost to tier her were she to remain on the fence until the roll is called at st louis re for and loyalty to general harri son however cuts some figure with the uninstructed delegation in reaching a conclusion just as esteem and regard for senator cullom caused many of the Illinois ans to waver last week according to the program and according to established precedent the matter will be bo disposed of immediately after the permanent organization has been effected instructions as aa well as the platform will be submitted before the selection of delegates at large or the nomination of state officers are made when chairman gowdy called the convention to order shortly before eleven tomlinsons Tomlin sone sons hall and the big corridore corrido rj and rotunda were packed men of the law lor mckinley mid and silver sacramento to cal may 6 the mckinley enthusiasts completely captured the republican state convention today although the district delegates elected from the fourth congressional district were and are avowedly allison supporters the fifth district republicans pu public blicaus ans will probably be of the same political complexion but the other fourteen are bound to mckinley by the strongest pledges that could be framed the convention came out squarely for silver in the following declaration which was enthusiastically adopted we favor the free and
