last night at the I Grand and the university dance were the principal eents among the S schools 1 S The most notable event of the past week was the rec Dtton given on fl Thursday afternoon by Mrs Thomas I Miss I I Career introducing her daughter Bertha Carter to society The invitations I 1 invita-tions read frock 2 oclock till 4 from V 3 till 5 and from 4 till 6 and the pretty i rooms were filled the whole afternoon I and the guests were received by Mrs I Carter and Miss Carter assisted by t Mrs George A Lowe Mrs La Barthe j Mrs Egbert Roberts Mrs Nlles Mrs I Wilkes and Mrs Justice In the dining S din-ing room dainty refreshmentS were served by Miss Catherine Lowe Miss Margaret Park Miss Agnes Zane and Miss Edna Shearman Miss Nellie Bransford presided over the lemonade table in the hall The house was artistically c ar-tistically arranged and decorated the dining room being especially beauti S i1 in yellow roses and California pop pes The two Pal lors were filled with S the scent of honeysuckle and snowball the hall with pansies and the liBrary c was most charming in pink and white clover S Last Monday morning eight of so ciefys most charming young ladles left the city for a weeks outing at Walkers Walk-ers farm One of the Walker cottages had been put at the disposal of the party and providing themselves with a cook the girls set forth to enjoy a week of quiet and rest but faite ruled otherwise The girls had hardly made things homelike before the men appeared ap-peared on the scene and every night a party from the city has driven or ridden rid-den down for a few re-cipient of many letters asking the aims of the Alcott club Her reply is that the object of such a club is to give children pleasure in such a way that they will derive profit at the same time To lead their energies in a healthful direction and to keep them off the streets Jn vacation many mothers especially if they are wage earners are at sea as to the disposing of their children While they are at school they are safe but during vacation va-cation the problem is a difficult one If for one day they are taken charge of in a manner similar to that proposed by the Alcott club the example and lessons learned would be so beneficial that it might lead to good results for the rest of the week Then too each child pays a nickel as dues and the I money is intended for the purchase of books If brilliant reception tendered to the graduating class at the Grand hotel The grounds were illuminated with Chinese lanterns and the lawn presented pre-sented a pretty picture indeed when t the festivities were at their Insight A dancing floor had been laid on the west side of the grounds and the lawn and reception hall were thronged with I students and their friends During the evening refreshments were served and rut 1130 the guests separated the class of 96 disbanding after being together for four years OGDEX SOCIETY There wen too many events of a public nature going on last week to admit of many elaborate social functions func-tions It has been the last day of school in ever so many buildings and there have been very pleasant exercises connected with them The Rhea lecture prizes A punch bowl was a conspicuous and pleasant feature of the entertainment and the delicious beverage was daintily dain-tily served therefrom It was one of the clubs most enjoyable meetings which is saying a great deal The closing exercises of the Weber stake academy were very pleasant and I attracted a good many people frum I outside the city The closing feature was a grand ball in the
