Show City Council The city council met shortly after 8 oclock Mayor Turner in the chair All the members were present except Councilmen Council-men Dee and Elliott The minutes of the I previous meeting were read and approved A number of citizens of Slaterville asked that Bingham lane lying east of the Southern Pacific railroad tracks be graded and out in respectable condition for travel Committee on streets W C Carpenter and others asked that the present rate of license for operating billiard and pool tables be reduced The present rate of fro per year for each table was considered entirely too much for successful suc-cessful conducting of the business Committee J Com-mittee on license and city attorney v I The Golden Hour club asked for the use A of Lester Park pavilion for an entertainment entertain-ment on the evening of the 25th or 26th lUst Committee on public grounds John Johnston petitioned for a position OB the police force Police commission The committee on public grounds recommended recom-mended that an electric light be placed at the intersection of Lincoln and Twenty sixth streets Adopted The committee on streets returned the petition of J H Cardon relating to placing a drain pipe from lot 7 block 30 plat A to Twentythird street and recommended that it be referred to the city engineer Adopted v The finance committee recommended the t appropriation of 1300 fcr the purpose of carrytaB on the Fourth of July celebration Recommendation adopted The Ogden Abstract company entered Into contract with the city to correct the it city plat from January 1 1890 to rt a J w a < LA I January 1 1891 They claimed they had performed extra work for nearly ten thousand thou-sand lots and asked that a committee be appointed to act with a like committee from the county court to consider the amount that should be allowed them The finance committee recommended the petition peti-tion be allowed Adopted The committee on fire department recommended recom-mended tbe purchase of a new hook and ladder truck An amendment was made first to ascertain the cost of the new truck and passed The committee on license recommended that the petition of Frank Monroe and others for license rebate be not granted Adopted On motion of Councilman Graves the city recorder was instructed to draw a I warrant for 15 in favor ot Jf Cortez recently re-cently voted to defray the expenses of Decoration Dec-oration day A large number of bills were ordered paid and some of a miscellaneous character referred to the committee on claims Councilman McManis moved that the mayor and city recorder be instructed to sign twenty five bonds of the citys new issue aqd place the same with purchasers themoney received therefor to be turned into the city treasury tat upon receipt of said money the recorder issue a warrant for 2500 in favor of A C Bigelow as prorate pro-rate commission for 50000 bonds negotiated nego-tiated by him The motion was carried Councilman Allen voting no Councilor Lundy moved that bids be advertised ad-vertised for to clear the west half of the city hall square all material removed to become be-come the property of the contractors that a street be graded through the centre of said block from Twentyfifth to Twenty sixth i streets Carried Councilor Cannon moved that the committee com-mittee on streets report to the council at the earliest possible time the cost of paving material of foreign and native production Carried Mr Cannon then moved that the city advertise for plans for a now city jail and police court station combined to be erected on city hall square Carried Mr Spencer moved that bids coming from outside the city be not accepted that said building cost not more than 20000 Councilor Lundy moved that the successful suc-cessful architect be given 500 premium for the plans Carried Councilor Cannon moved that the rate of taxation for the year 1S91 be placed at 3M mills Carried On motion the compensation of the tax collector vas placed at 7 per cent of the amount collected The date for the meeting of the board of equalization will be set lor the second Monday Mon-day in August The council then adjourned ad-journed |
