J5P TELEGRAPH. that manly speech in Congress in opposition to the Cragin and Cullom bills, and raised his eloquent voice against the iniquitous conspiracy to deprive the people of Utah of their constitutional rights, the ladies of Ogden in mass meeting assembled, expressed their admiration of the gentleman's effort in our behalf. One lady declared in public that if Mr. Fitch would visit Ogden she would treat him to a dish of strawberries and cream. Mr. Fitch paid us a visit last evening, but instead of receiving the promised reward, the treat came fro n him. His lecture in the Tabernacle was an intellectual dish of strawberries and cream, with plenty of sugar, served up in the most elegant style. The Tabernacle was crowded to excels in every part. Notwithstanding the severely cold evening, more than two thousand persons assembled, nnd greeted the lecturer with enthusiastic applause. Commencing with his arrival at Queens-town- , he took his hearers on a trip through those parts of Europe most attractive to travelers, pointing out in a charmiasr, yet critical manner, such ob jects as are most likely to catch the eje of a poet and charm the lover of the bedutiful. Mingling the humorous rrith the pathet-ic,h- e moved his audience to laughter and to tears, and preseated past history in contrast to'present facts, illuminated by the reflections of the philosopher, and sparkling with bright sallies of wit. The national peculiarities of the Irish, English, French and Italians', were depicted as they appear to the American mind, and illustrated by droll anecdotes and pleasant mimicry. The future of Europe freed from the thrall of kingcraft an4 aristocracy, and the grand work ot America and her pioneers as leaders of the van in the army of liberty, were portrayed in masterly style and made every heart thrill with patriotic emotion. The lecture was listened to with intense interest, and at the close such a prolonged round of applause testified to the delight of the assembly .as is very seldom heard in any building in Ogden. Mr. Fitch is a true orator. He know how to catch the popular feeling and to stir the public heart, and while pleasing the ear with his rich mellow voice and beautifully arranged sentences, the mind receives no evil impression but is led to admire the good and the true in nature and in art. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered the eloquent lecturer, and the meeting was enlivened by some excellent singing from the Tabernacle choir, under the leadership of Professor Pugh. Died.
