Show TERRITORIAL TALK. Utah Southern R.R. has been having a blockade. ---- Salt Lake is soon to have a theatrical company of its own.---- Trains over the Utah Central road have recently been delayed by snow. ---- James Dwyer of Salt Lake has been appointed Utah agent for the "Irish Relief Fund."---- From the News: The case of the People against Alexander Moore, charged with murder of John Kemple, at Bingham a few months ago, was concluded on Friday. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. Moore is indebted for his acquittal to the shrewdness and ability of his council, Arthur Brown, Esq.---- A man giving the name of Thos. [Thomas] E. Smith was on the 13th, fined in the police court $30 for stealing an overcoat, and $20 extra for swearing and abusive language while before the justice. The next day he was brought up on the charge of stealing some blankets, and fined $30 more. He will work out these fines on the streets. ---- From the Herald: A finely executed counterfeit $5 bill, purporting to be issued by the "First National Bank of Tamaqua," Pennsylvania, is in circulation here. The engraving, printing, coloring and paper are all well calculated to deceive any but an expert. A couple of blunders in the lettering on the back of the bill shows its spurious character. On the upper right hand corner, the word "owing" on the genuine, appears as "ownig" on the counterfeit; and on the lower right hand corner the word "thousand" appears "thousnud.' |
