City Council Makes Plans for Proposed Gas Ordinance July 2 , it rr' i Homecoming City Attorney Given Go Ahead to Prepare Ordinance for Gas Service in Brigham City At the regular session of City Council meeting July 2, Gas Mantua Elder the newly proposed Ordinance was discussed by Mayor C. LeGrande Horsley, and Councilmen John Larsen, Richard Hansen, Leon Packer, John Hadfield and Don Chase: Councilman Larsen and Willis Hansen, office manager, were authorized to contact City Attorney W. G. Mann regarding study and preparation of the gas ordinance. A request by Raymond Olsen, Nichols, gnd Delmont Clyde Jones for a change in the course of , their irrigation water due to the main street project was discussed during the meeting. The delegation asked that Brigham City pipe the entire ditch. Councilmen Hadfield, Larsen to and Chase were appointed and investigate the situation bring back recommendations to the council for their considera- council the citys fire and liability insurance policies. Mayor Horsley appointed Councilmen Hansen, Chase, and Packer to obtain legal advice from the city attorney concerning the citys fire and liability policies. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Larsen requested information from the council regarding the new zoning ordinance and asked for advice as to what action must be taken to abate a nuisance. A son of Bishop and Mrs. Chester Rasmussen of Mantua, Elder Rasmussen returned home June 25 from Denmark where he has labored for the past two and a half years as a missionary fbr the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. While in Denmark, he was one of the first LDS missionaries called to serve on the Faroe Islands, which are located north of England and west of Norway in the North Atlantic Ocean. He labored on the island for one year, after which he returned to Denmark, where he served as district president at Esbjerg for six months prior to being released to return home. He enjoyed making a tour of Europe before boarding the Queen Mary to return home, lie visited in Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, France, Holland, England, Scotland, Switzerland, Norway and Sweden. He plans to enroll at Utah State University this fall. The many friends and relatives of the Rasmussen family are invited to attend the homecoming program. Gunderson reported that after considerable figuring, it was evident that the county could feed the 5,000. evacuees, as well as local residents, for a period of seven days, if it were impossible to obtain additional food from outside sources, or it was estimated that local y people could survive for a period under the same circumstances, if no evacuees were brought in. The second part of the "problem asked how much food this locality could send to a disaster area. It was reported that Box Elder county could furnish enough canned goods, sugar 0 flour and meat to supply people for ten days. The final question asked for an inventory of gas and oil supplies. Local dealers Indicated that bulk plants carry a total supply of 570,000 gallons of gasoline and 5,000 gallons of oil, This does not include the amount stored at service stations, Gunderson explained. At the conclusion of the meetrecommended ing, Gunderson that local residents evaluate their family supplies, as well as their city, and county in case of disaster. Among the questions he suggested to be considered in the evaluation were: (1) How long could each family live without going to a grocery or clothing store? (2) How could we prepare food without electricity or gas? (3) How many people could we take into our homes as evacuees? Wight has accepted a position in Portland, Ore., with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, as area director of Indian education. The new post will be an administrative post, where Wight will be in charge of all phases of education for the Indians in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Of the 7,000 Indian children of school age in that area, approxi6,000 ' attend mately public schools and the balance attend the three schools operated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
