Special invitations have been sent to senators and representatives of all seven Northern Utah counties to be present. Invitations have also been sent to all officials and county city throughout the area. t Representative-elecHenry Dixon of the First District, and Rep. Stanley Brewer, Ogden city councilman and president of the Weber County Watershed Protection corp., will speak on watershed protection, and other interest will items be discussed. The unit will be in south Box Elder county beginning Friday, December 3 and continuing on specific days until December 17. Schows Thanksgiving story for Children, "A Patriots Holiday, tied for third place in the adults division of the 1954 contest of the National Thanks giving Association. Mrs. Gertrude Hansen of Ex celsior, Minnesota, the contest chairman of the association, stated in a letter accompanying the award, Your story now be comes the property of the N.T.A. The Association, after sponsor ing several annual poetry contests, has published a compila tlon of the best entries, entitled This Is America. It is my hope that short story contests will re suit in the publication of a col lection of Thanksgiving mater ial for children." Contest rules required that entries stress the patriotic and re ligious significance of Thanks giving Day and advocate the display of the flag on this oc casion. The announcement of the 1954 contest appeared in a late summer issue of The Improvement Era. Farmers Must Participate in Social Security Program, Official Explains Participation by farm opera-torand farm employers in the social security program is not optional, Wesley F. Watson of the Ogden social security office, said today. s Mr. "Congress determined, Watson said, from testimony given by national organizations representing the farmers, that the majority of the farmers wanted social security coverage. also expressed the Congress opinion that putting participation on an. optional basis would result in an adverse selection of risks. That is, those near 65 and those with young children might be more interested in the protection offered by social security than a younger person To keep without dependents. the program .financially ' sound! now and in the future, therefore, ail members of a group are extended coverage at the same time. -- 'All persons who make a net profit of at least $400 in any year after 1954 from the operaentertion of an agricultural prise will be required to file a report of their earnings for social security purposes and to pay a social security tax of 3 percent on their net profit between $400 and $4200. This report is filed and the tax is paid along with the individuals income tax return for the year. The first such report will ordinarily be filed early in 1956 when income tax returns for the year 1955 are filed. (Jack) Rees, brother of Mrs. Ethel Rees Jensen, Lloyd Rees, and the late Emery Rees of Brigham City, will retire today, December 1, as vice president and cashier of the First National Bank of Dillon, Mont. Mr. Rees has been a member of the First National Bank organization for 36 years and will remain on the board of directors of the bank and continue Mrs. Denzell Butler names committees . A Max youth, Floyd Stockton, Ogden, was found guilty in the Second District Court, of firing a gun point blank at Highway Trooper Te Wayne Woodland, Willard. Judge Parley E. Norseth found the youth guilty of shooting at Woodland with a .357 Magnum revolver on the night of Sept. 13. Trooper Woodland had stop ped a car in which the youths were traveling and while he was radioing in a call to the sheriffs office, the youth pushed a .410 shotgun into Woodlands stomach. He took the troopers revolver and fired. Woodland sprang at Stockton and overpowered him. Long Line of Royalty In Procession During FFA-FH- A Harvest Ball at BEHS Hunsaker and Doris Teryl Hardy were named king and queen of the Box Elder High School Harvest Ball last Wednesday evening. A host of attendants flanked them. Miss Hardy is.daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hardy of Bear River City, and Hunsaker is the son of Mi. and Mrs. William E Hunsaker of Honeyville. MELBOURNE 6 PAGES 1, 1954 Brigham City Jewelry Store Burglary Is Confessed by East Garland Youth Santa's Official Box Ready For Business Burt Rhodes, 19, Admits Part In Sept. 16 Theft Burt Rhodes, 19, East Garland, confessed earlier this week to burglarizing Simonsens Jewelry Store, 38 South Main, this fall, Sheriff Warren W, Hyde, said Tuesday. After several days Interrogation, $1167 worth of merchandise which disappeared from the Brigham City jewelry store Sept. 16, 1954, was recovered. Sheriff Hyde said about $200 worth was still missing. The East Garland man was apprehended at Richfield, Sevier county, last week on a burglary charge and implicated himself in the Brigham City theft while being held there. As a young man he went to Dillon in 1916 as agent for the old American Express company. He held this position for one to year, then was transferred Anaconda where he held a similar position.
