Show . Sports & Leisure j Clark Kent Fears by Christopher Thomas Forum staff writer A slow week of news meant freshmen reporter, Clark Kent, would have to dig up a story off the streets of Metropolis. Earlier in the week, the Chief had frowned at Kents story ideas on superhero wrestling and the extinction of phone booths in the 90s, leaving the ebullient journalist clueless. Suffering from lxk of creativity and a classic case of writers block, Kent sat at his desk and thought about cub reporter, Jimmy Olsen, who was gallivanting downtown with Lois Lane. The reporter stared aimlessly out the window shooting wads of paper at the office basketball hoop, trying to formulate a story idea. would Great Caesars Ghost, Olsen you get to work and stop screwing around! the Chief bellowed from theadjacentroom. Kent ignored the Chiefs mistake in identities and eyed the dotted ceiling, wondering if he was suffering from PMC (pre midlife crisis). Clark, you get too hung up on the little ' things go get a breath of fresh air and start over, the voice of his echoed through his head. Easier said than done, he sighed as he contemplated taking his afternoon break. Olsen always keeps little trinkets in his desk lets see what he has today, the unenthused journalist thought. As Kent opened the bottom drawer of Olsens desk, he discovered an old pair of roller skates covered by a Slinkcc, Pet Rock and a Barrel pay-per-vie- w mild-manner- ed step-moth- er of Monkeys. couldnt, the Chief would kill if he saw me, Kent thought Live a little. in the contrasted Sparky, Olsens voice Nothing-Exce- M t) . j ' t ' M. 1 , ! , , Kryptonite And Rollerblood pt right side of the brain. He was scopin the babes when a tree root grabbed his ankle, throwing the wanna-b- e superhero against the pavement An entourage of junior high school students approached the strawberry-knee- d journalist and inquired about his condition. Kent assured the crew-haireadolescents that he was fine as he stood up, only to stumble back to the ear-ring- ed d, ground. Wow, dude, dat brother is messed up and he aint even got da blades, said one of the juveniles who was dressed in neon. Embarrassed by his clumsiness, Kent staggered down the sidewalk with the crowd of boys following closely behind. This yo firs taste of rollerblood, mon? the boy questioned. Kent stood silently, and finally asked, "What is rollerblood? Sis when yo swing on da greased turf, mon, he answered. Then what is greased turf? Kent persisted. Lets me take yo to mine rollerbud-die- s, mon, and yo can learn da jive of bladin, the boy said. Hours later, Kent leaped up the fire escape and in through a window into the Daily Planet wearing da blades He was just in time to comprise a story on his newfound craze and save his name and reputation on the pages of the Daily Planet I Clark Kent blades down the fire escape to save his reputation. by Clark Kent Daily Planet staff writer It looks like childs play, but inline skating is actually a good form of exercise and is gaining popularity throughout Metropolis. Although it is a sport dominated by junior high schoolers, even a starving reporter can afford the equipmentand learn to maneuver the inline blades easier than riding a bike. A pair of inline skates and pads costs under $175, and thats all it takes to get started. It is relatively cheap after the first investment, said Wayne Eggum, a representative with the Bauer line of blades. His music has been featured on Wide World of Sports, the Tour de France, World Figure Skating Championships, U.S. Open Tennis Championships and the Olympic Games. The theme for the ABC-T- V news program,' World News Now is a Yanni composition. In addition, his music has been heard on television movies, IllTake I Love You Perfect and Romance, Children of the Bride. He has also collaborated with master marketer, public relations genius Malcom McCLaren, most famous for masterminding the Sex Pistols as their manager. The association with McClaren raises some questions in my jaded mind. His skill at media manipulation is legendary. He has a history as the operator of a sex boutique, he was manager of the infamously hedonistic, decadent. His music sounds like music from the Olympic Games or World Figure Skating Championships. His music is highly atmospheric and ethereal. There are elements of Eastern and European as well as classical music present. Yanni is a master of keyboards. His music consists of sound textures layered to produce soothing, relaxing, beautiful music.' Standout cuts on the CD are So Long My Friend and Nice to Meet You, with an acoustic violin added. Aria also stands out with vocals by Mona Lisa. The sameness of songs on the CD is broken up by adding an acoustic or vocal instrument to the electronic mix.
